Embrace the phenomenal natural wonders of Scandinavia, from the deep fjords of Norway's wild Lofoten Islands to the beautiful wilderness of Swedish Lapland.
Spellbinding Scandinavian rail journeys take us from the ancient Viking capital of Trondheim to Swedish Lapland, visiting the best places to see the Aurora Borealis, with many opportunities to experience these swirling lights. Travelling by rail through amazing landscapes, cross the Arctic Circle to Bodø to seek the ethereal Northern Lights on a journey through the Lofoten Islands, a wild outpost of majestic mountains and windswept beaches. Entering Swedish Lapland, meet the Sámi people at their camp, visit the iconic Ice Hotel and enjoy a husky sled ride through a snow-covered wonderland.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 • UK - Trondheim

Fly to Oslo and transfer to Trondheim, the former Viking Capital for a two-night stay. The rest of the day is free to relax or begin exploring.
Day 2 • Trondheim - Bodø

Departing Trondheim, travel on the spectacular Nordland Railway across the Arctic Circle to Bodø. Pass frozen lakes, fjords and mountains, spotting wildlife on route. Skirting Skjerstad Fjord, arrive in this coastal city, with a chance to glimpse the Northern Lights.
Day 3 • Bodø - Svolvær

Take a scenic coach journey, travelling from Bodø to Bognes. From here, catch the ferry to Lødingen on the Lofoten Isles. After disembarking, your atmospheric drive continues to Svolvær, the tiny capital of these stunning islands, described as Europe’s most dramatic and spectacular archipelago.
Day 4 • Svolvær

A scenic drive with a local guide takes you to one of Norway’s oldest and best-preserved fishing villages, Nusfjord. Continue your drive amid the Lofoten scenery to Vestvågøy. This spellbinding island is renowned for its agriculture, but it is the sandy beaches, snow-capped mountains and enchanting landscapes that capture the hearts of visitors.
Day 5 • Svolvær - Narvik

Saying goodbye to Svolvær after breakfast, we set off on the return journey to the Norwegian mainland. The ice-free seaport of Narvik is located 250 miles north of the Arctic Circle and has lots of fascinating attractions, including the Red Cross War Memorial Museum, which documents the occupation of this vital port in World War Two.
Day 6 • Narvik - Kiruna

Board the Ofoten Railway, one of the northernmost railways in the world. Cross into Sweden and continue through remote wilderness to Kiruna in Swedish Lapland.
Day 7 • Kiruna

Experience the magic of Lapland. Visit the famous Ice Hotel and enjoy a cultural encounter with the Sámi people, learning about their traditions and meeting reindeer.
Day 8 • Kruger National Park

During breakfast, look forward to an amazing excursion this morning, a unique husky safari experience. With a pack of energetic huskies at the helm, steered by an expert guide, set out on a large sled through the snowy scenery.
Day 9 • Kiruna - UK

Transfer to the airport for your return flight home, bringing your unforgettable Northern Lights adventure to a close.
