From vibrant Palermo and the lunar landscapes of Mount Etna in Sicily to the ancient temples and picturesque villages of Malta, this is a captivating discovery of two contrastingly beautiful locations not to be missed.
Enjoy guided sightseeing through Palermo’s historic streets, bustling markets and iconic landmarks before travelling to the beautiful Giardini Naxos region. Journey to Mount Etna, Europe’s highest active volcano, where lava-crusted slopes meet chestnut and coniferous forests and its summit is often crowned with snow. Reaching almost 2,000 metres of altitude, you’ll discover the striking black landscape of the extinct Silvestri Craters. You’ll also explore the ancient city of Syracuse and the Archaeological Park of Neapolis before crossing by ferry to Malta. In Malta, discover the historic Three Cities, the Blue Grotto, Hagar Qim Temples and the colourful fishing village of Marsaxlokk. A guided tour of Valletta also showcases Malta’s impressive architecture and magnificent harbour views.
You’ll then return to Sicily, where the tour concludes with a visit to Catania, often known as the”Black Daughter of Etna”. Over the centuries, the town has fallen victim to Etna’s eruptions many times, yet it has always been rebuilt. Spend time exploring this fascinating city before beginning your journey home through Italy and France.
