About this tour

Go in search of the gentle giants of the Borneo jungles - the elusive orangutan - on a wildlife expedition. Kalimantan, the Indonesian portion of Borneo, is teeming with jungles to explore, cultures to learn, and welcoming people to have a laugh with - and your wildlife expedition will be so much more than that. Staying in comfortable eco-lodging and a traditional longhouse in the heart of the jungle, go out in search of orangutans and learn about how the local communities' conservation efforts have ensured that these creatures, along with other endemic wildlife, continue to thrive in this slice of jungle paradise.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Jakarta (Pre-stay)

Arrive in Jakarta and check in for your included pre-stay night. Settle in and relax after your flight, or head out to explore the city at your own pace.
Day 2: Jakarta

Your adventure officially begins with a welcome meeting at 6pm. If you arrive early, explore Jakarta's museums such as the Wayang (Puppetry) Museum, the Fine Arts & Ceramics Museum or the National Museum. Afterwards, gather your travel pals for a local meal.
Day 3: Palangka Raya / Tumbang Malahoi Longhouse

Fly to Kalimantan on Borneo. On arrival, visit the Balanga Museum for an insight into Kalimantan's indigenous cultures, then enjoy a local lunch before driving to your longhouse stay in Tumbang Malahoi village. Be welcomed with a Tumpang Tawar blessing ceremony, then enjoy dinner and family dancing in the longhouse.
Day 4: Palangka Raya

After a local breakfast, take a walk around the village to learn how the community lives and works, then explore the nearby jungle with the locals. After lunch in the jungle, say your farewells and return to Palangka Raya for a relaxed afternoon at your resort.
Day 5: Sampit

Embark on a Sei Gohong River canoe tour to Kaja Island, where you'll witness the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation's pre-release programme in action. In the afternoon, continue to the port city of Sampit, famous for its fresh seafood.
Day 6: Tanjung Puting National Park

Depart early for Tanjung Puting, arriving at Kumai Port by midday to board a traditional klotok river boat. Keep an eye out for proboscis monkeys en route to your eco-lodge in the heart of the jungle. Later, visit the Tanjung Harapan feeding station, where large alpha males are often spotted.
Day 7: Tanjung Puting National Park

Cruise upriver by klotok to the world-famous Camp Leakey, one of the most renowned orangutan research centres on the planet. Visit the education centre and feeding platform, and watch for gibbons, wild pigs and orangutans socialising along the riverbank.
Day 8: Tanjung Puting National Park

Head to the Pondok Tanggui feeding station for morning feeding time, spotting giant squirrels, pigs and butterflies along the way. Enjoy lunch on board before the afternoon feeding at Tanjung Harapan and a visit to the nearby village.
Day 9: Jakarta

Say goodbye to Tanjung Puting and cruise back to Kumai by klotok. Stop for lunch before flying to Jakarta. Enjoy free time to explore the city by night or a farewell dinner with your travel pals.
Day 10: Jakarta (Post-stay)

Enjoy your included post-stay night in Jakarta, with free time to explore the capital at your own pace.
Day 11: Departure

Your adventure comes to an end and it's time to fly back home.
