About this tour
Explore the spiritual and cultural heart of North India on a journey through some of the country’s most iconic destinations. Along the way, sample wild culinary delights, marvel at a chaotic tapestry of lost empires and discover one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, The Taj Mahal.
Beginning in Delhi, discover both Old and New Delhi, explore bustling markets by rickshaw, view the Red Fort, visit Humayun’s Tomb and the UNESCO-listed Qutb Minar complex. The journey continues by train to Varanasi, one of the world’s oldest living cities and Hinduism’s holiest destinations. Highlights include witnessing the atmospheric Ganga Aarti ceremony on the banks of the Ganges and taking a sunrise boat ride to observe daily life unfolding along the sacred river.
From Varanasi, your tour heads to Amritsar, home of the magnificent Golden Temple, the spiritual centre of Sikhism. You’ll also explore rich culture and traditions before continuing through some of North India’s most celebrated destinations.
Your trip includes visits to Agra and Jaipur, where guests experience two of India’s most famous monuments, the breathtaking Taj Mahal and the impressive Amber and Agra Forts. These sites showcase the grandeur of the Mughal and Rajput empires and form part of India’s Golden Triangle.
A further trip highlight is Shimla, the former summer capital of British India, set amidst the Himalayan foothills. You can enjoy spectacular mountain scenery and a journey on the UNESCO-recognised Toy Train, one of India’s most scenic rail experiences.
