About this tour
Your tour begins in San José, Costa Rica’s capital and gateway to the country’s natural wonders. Journey to Irazú Volcano National Park, home to Costa Rica’s volcanoes, before visiting the CATIE Botanical Garden, where more than 4,000 tropical plants thrive across 45 hectares of lush, landscaped grounds.
Next, venture into the remote waterways of Tortuguero, a paradise only accessible by boat. Visit the Sea Turtle Conservancy Museum to learn about the region’s important conservation efforts and the various turtle species that nest along its shores before exploring the winding canals and rainforest fringed waterways of Tortuguero National Park, often named the ‘Amazon of Central America’.
Continue to the Arenal region and discover the rainforest on a naturalist walk, taking in views of the lush greenery and rugged volcanoes, before relaxing in the hot springs of Ecotermales La Fortuna, nestled at the volcano’s base. A change of scenery awaits you at the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, offering a stark, cooler contrast to Costa Rica’s lowlands. Home to remarkable wildlife, orchids and ancient trees, its network of trails provides excellent opportunities for nature walks and birdwatching.
Your adventure continues to the Pacific coast with a dolphin and whale-watching tour before concluding in the mountainside community of Canaan with a traditional cheese tour, offering a delicious insight into local life.
