Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi
Welcome to Kenya. Upon arrival in Nairobi, a local representative will be waiting at the airport to transfer you to your comfortable hotel. The rest of the day is free to relax ahead of your safari adventure. Overnight at Eka Hotel (or similar).
Day 2: Nairobi & Tsavo West
After breakfast, depart Nairobi on a 6.5-hour drive to Tsavo West National Park. Located in the Coast province in south-east Kenya, the landscape of Tsavo West is spectacularly varied, with semi-arid plains, open grasslands, dense woodlands, rocky outcrops and lava flows. The park is also home to an abundance of wildlife including rhino, buffalo, leopard, lion, waterbuck, lesser kudu, giraffe and the rare gerenuk. But it is perhaps best known for its herds of magnificent ‘red’ elephants, whose unusual colouring actually stems from the rich red dust and soil that they cover themselves in. You’ll arrive in time for lunch at Voyager Ziwani Tented Camp, situated on a private sanctuary at the western edge of Tsavo. The camp sits on a secluded dam on the Santee River, home to turtles, crocodile and hippo. Overnight at Voyager Ziwani Tented Camp (or similar).
Day 3: Tsavo West
Head out on morning and afternoon game drives in historic Tsavo West, to experience the impressive volcanic landscape and hopefully spot its dust red elephants. You’ll also visit the popular Mzima Springs, a series of sparkling pools fed by underground streams. An underwater viewing chamber offers the chance to observe hippos and crocodiles beneath the surface of these wildlife-rich pools. Back at camp there’ll be time to relax and admire the view of Mount Kilimanjaro. Overnight at Voyager Ziwani Tented Camp (or similar).
Day 4: Tsavo West & Amboseli
Today, drive 5.5-hours to Amboseli National Park, located in the Rift Valley province at the foot of snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro. Located close to the Tanzanian border, Amboseli is a photographer’s paradise boasting unparalleled views of Kilimanjaro and some of the most spectacular sunrises and sunsets you’re likely to see anywhere. You’ll arrive at Ol Tukai Lodge in time for lunch, with monkeys and baboons roaming the grounds while you eat. After refuelling and refreshing, enjoy an afternoon game drive in Amboseli. The park has a large concentration of wildlife, particularly in the dry season. There are over 1000 elephants, including some of the largest in Africa. As well as the huge herds, you may catch sight of buffalo and lions in the open savannah and rolling hills. Overnight at Ol Tukai Lodge (or similar).
Day 5: Amboseli
Make the most of Amboseli’s wildlife opportunities today, on early morning, mid-morning and afternoon game drives across the national park's often arid plains. You will hopefully see buffalo and some of the big cats. Though largely dry and dusty, Amboseli is also home to swamplands, fed by underwater springs from the meltwaters of Mount Kilimanjaro. These lush swamplands attract wallowing elephants and hippo, as well as buffalo and birdlife. More than 400 species of bird can be found, including the rare Taita falcon and the southern banded harrier eagle. There will also be plenty of time to enjoy the facilities at the lodge. Overnight at Ol Tukai Lodge (or similar).
