My TUI Holiday: Dominican Republic
Date Posted: 30/03/2023
James from our Social Media team enjoyed a recent TUI holiday to the Caribbean, he jetted off to soak up the sunshine in the Dominican Republic. Here's how James found his trip and what he got up to!
It was my first time ever going to the Caribbean and flying with TUI made the experience even better. When we boarded the 787 Dreamliner, we were welcomed by the friendliest cabin crew who continued their friendly service throughout. The plane itself comes with enhanced amenities like 30% larger windows for those who love looking out above the clouds. If you’re like me, who likes to try and sleep on flights, you can dim the windows by the touch of a button. If you’re not a sleeper then TUI have got you covered as it’s kitted out with state-of-the-art seatback TVs with new and classic movies, tv series and games. The mood lighting made the journey a more enjoyable and tranquil one, something you wouldn’t usually expect from a long-haul flight.
Meals and drinks were included on our flight but there is an additional snack service if you’re still feeling peckish. After a comfortable 9 hours we landed in Punta Cana and our cases were waiting for us on the carousel. From here we were taken to our air conditioned coach transfer. The ride was smooth and we arrived at our hotel within the hour…
Welcome to the ‘Dreams Onyx Punta Cana’, a place of beauty, sun and fun! From the sparkling turquoise waters to the white sandy beaches, you'll find plenty of activities and sights to explore. Whether you're looking for an adventure or just to relax, this hotel has it all. Enjoy relaxing by the pool, exploring the lazy rivers, or playing volleyball on the beach. With so many activities, you'll never run out of things to do.
The slides and pools were a highlight for us. Thrilling water slides were a big hit and at 21 years of age I tested them all… for work purposes of course. You’ve got a section of the hotel which is literally like you’ve taken a waterpark and slotted it perfectly into the architecture. Littered with palm trees and greenery it was certainly the best hotel waterpark I’ve ever been to; it didn’t look too bad either.
Each pool has a bar just steps away and each bar comes with an expert bartender, the bartenders know how to make whatever it is you’re after. As an all inclusive resort, they really do have everything and all the drinks I tried were spot on. We really were spoiled for choice as the Dreams Onyx hosts 22 bars and restaurants. A personal favourite of mine was the Bluewater Grill as they had one of the best steaks I’ve ever tasted, and the band made one of our birthdays extra special by serenading us. Any cuisine you can think of they probably have it here and when you think of a buffet you might not be bothered but do not sleep on this one, it was divine. If you don’t eat meat, do not worry as every restaurant has something for our veggie friends.
If you’re a family, a couple or flying solo then make sure this hotel is on your list. For those looking for a more party vibe, you can access the sister hotel next door easily by buggy or simply by strolling down the interconnecting meandering paths. The adults only ‘Breathless Punta Cana Resort & Spa’ was just enough distance away to be a different hotel, but close enough to be able to party the night away and easily walk back to your room in the Dreams Onyx. We didn’t actually know about this until we got there and what a surprise it was. We were celebrating a 40th birthday and allowed us to have the perfect mix of party and chill as we went between the two adjoining hotels as we pleased.
Everything at these hotels were beyond perfect - the professionalism, the expertise, the atmosphere. I felt like I was in a dream. This was one of the best holidays I ever had, and I will be going back. I highly recommend TUI and the Dreams Onyx Punta Cana to anyone looking for an unforgettable experience.
