Malta Pride 2022: Educational Trip
Date Posted: 18/10/2022
Lauren from our Social Media team has recently returned from Malta where she got to fly the rainbow flag high for Hays Travel at Malta Pride!
She had the pleasure of attending Malta Pride with ChilliMix Holidays, who specialise in lgbtq+ safe travel and Malta Tourism Authority, with a two day itinerary packed with learning and exploring everything Malta has to offer.
Here are a few highlights from her trip to show you why you should head to Malta for Europride 2023!
“We spent our first morning exploring Malta via self-drive electric cars with Rolling Geeks. The cars come with a pre-programmed GPS to take you on the perfect tour of the three cities, and even explain what you’re looking at too! It was such a unique and amazing way to explore Malta. Later on, we swapped the roads for the sea and sailed in a Traditional Maltese fishing boat to see the most spectacular views of Malta from the harbour.
Malta Pride was my favourite part of the whole trip! Even before The Malta Pride March began, the atmosphere was electric with music roaring through the streets! We paraded alongside rainbow unicorn floats, sang our heart out with drag queens, joined in with a flash mob in the middle of the street and ended the parade at a live concert with a Cher Tribute Act.
For our evening meal, we visited the Michelin Star restaurant ‘59 Republic’, located in Grandmasters Palace Square. I indulged in Scottish Scallops, Argentinian fillet of Beef and a chocolate mousse. Accompanied with the ambience of the stunning outdoor setting, to enjoy Malta’s evening temperature, the whole experience was fantastic.
Over the next day we got to relax and rejuvenate at Café Del Mar before the final day of Malta Pride. Departing at La Regatta Restaurant, we decorated several traditional Maltese fishing boats in rainbow flags, balloons, bunting, unicorns and more to sail the Grand Harbour a final time for Pride.
Throughout our trip we stayed at the gorgeous 5* Hilton Hotel in St. Julian’s bay. I had the pleasure of staying in a spacious Marina Terrace Spa Room, which had a private hot tub that overlooked Portomaso Marina. Everything about this hotel was remarkable, starting from check in all the way to check out, with smiling staff that went above and beyond your every need.
It was the most amazing experience full of love and laughter in such a beautiful country, and I can’t wait to be back next year to see what EuroPride Valletta 2023 - Malta Pride has to offer!”
