San Francisco will always hold a special place in my heart. It was the first U.S. city I visited, and from the moment I arrived, I knew it was unforgettable. It’s also where I met my husband, which makes it all the more meaningful.

What I love most is the city’s open-minded spirit and rich diversity. Each neighbourhood has its own unique personality, from the historic Haight Ashbury and vibrant Mission District to the elegance of Pacific Heights and the iconic energy of the Castro. The architecture feels like a postcard come to life, with colourful Victorian homes and character-filled streets.

Of course, there are the big sights like the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and Fisherman’s Wharf, but for me, it’s the sound of the cable cars and the sight of Karl, the city’s famous fog, that truly capture its essence.

The food scene is just as memorable. A taco from a Mission taco truck, enjoyed under the sun at Dolores Park, says everything about San Francisco’s flavour and community spirit.

And just outside the city there’s even more to explore, from Sausalito’s seaside charm and the peaceful Russian River to the vineyards of Napa Valley.

San Francisco isn’t just a place. It’s a feeling, one of colour, culture, connection, and charm. Once you’ve been, it stays with you.

Marrakech is another of my favourite cities, a place that captures your senses from the moment you arrive. It’s just a short flight from the UK, yet it feels like you’ve stepped into a completely different world.

For me, the place to stay is The Medina Gardens. Tucked away just outside the medina walls, it’s the perfect base, a peaceful adults-only haven with beautiful gardens, palm trees swaying in the breeze, and the sound of the call to prayer drifting gently from the nearby mosque. There’s something so calming about hearing it echo as the sun sets.

Step outside the hotel and you’re right on the doorstep of the medina, the beating heart of the city. By day, it’s a hive of activity with winding alleyways, vibrant souks, traditional craftsmanship, and colours that dazzle at every turn. Come evening, the medina transforms. It becomes a full-on sensory festival with music, food stalls, glowing lanterns, and the buzz of locals and visitors coming together. The energy is unforgettable.

Marrakech never fails to inspire me. It’s a city of contrasts, culture, and warmth, and one I’ll keep returning to.

Hong Kong and the Thai islands are both favourites of mine, for very different reasons, but each unforgettable in its own way.

Hong Kong dazzles with its skyline, energy, and that beautiful blend of East meets West. It’s fast paced yet full of hidden corners where you can slow down and soak in the culture. I’ve always loved how you can go from neon lit streets to a quiet mountain trail or a peaceful temple all in a single day. Wandering through Kowloon’s Ladies Market is an experience in itself, with rows of colourful stalls, the scent of street food in the air, and a buzz that feels uniquely Hong Kong.

Then there are Thailand’s islands, where time seems to pause. Whether it’s the crystal waters of Koh Lipe or the laid back charm of Koh Lanta, the islands offer that sense of escape and calm that’s hard to match. Gliding across the water in a long tail boat, with limestone cliffs rising around you, feels like something from a dream. The food, the sunsets, the kindness of the locals, everything just slows your heartbeat in the best way.

Very different, yet equally special. I couldn’t pick one, so I happily picked both.
And the best part is, you can do them both in the same trip. It’s easier than you think.
