Day 1: UK to Boston
Fly from London Heathrow via Zurich to Boston, the Cradle of American Liberty, aboard Swiss International/United Airlines. Transfer via the airport shuttle to Holiday Inn Bunker Hill Area or similar for your first night where you'll meet your Tour Manager.
Day 2: Boston to Cape Neddick Lighthouse to Kennebunkport to Portland
This morning you'll travel north to discover the beautiful coastline and fascinating history of this region. You'll pass through the oldest community in New Hampshire known for its historic and thriving fishing community – Portsmouth. Then stop at New England’s most iconic lighthouse on the summit of Cape Neddick – a small off-shore rocky island; nicknamed ‘The Nubble’, the Cape Neddick Lighthouse is one of the most photographed in America. The next stop is Kennebunkport, a small charming coastal town and home to the palatial summer estates of prominent politicians such as George Bush Senior. Your overnight stop is at Portland's Best Western Merry Manor Inn/Portland Fireside or similar with breakfast included. You'll have time to stroll the delightful, cobbled streets of Portland's Old Port waterfront district and have dinner (not included) at your leisure to perhaps sample the famous Maine lobster.
Day 3: Portland to Arcadia National Park to Bar Harbor
It’s an enjoyable drive northeast on Route 1 from Portland to Bar Harbor; from the window, you'll see the jagged coastline and rocky beaches of the Atlantic and the glorious Acadia National Park. Pass through quaint villages where local fishermen mark their grounds with colourful buoys, then arrive in the small town of Bar Harbor where you'll check into Best Western Acadia Park Inn, Bar Harbor or similar with breakfast included. Known for its stunning coastal beauty, Bar Harbor is famous for its charming ambience and the famous Maine Lobster.
Day 4: Bar Harbor to White Mountains New Hampshire
Journey inland today towards the spectacular scenery of the White Mountains, the 'rooftop of New England', whose landscape is dotted with enchanting, covered bridges and picturesque towns and villages. En route experience the breathtaking mountain vistas, pristine forests, and renowned foliage. Admire the spectacular views in the Franconia Notch State Park and the 800-foot Flume Gorge. Tonight you'll be staying in the Lodge at Bretton Woods for the next two nights which is part of the renowned Omni Mount Washington Resort.
Day 5: White Mountains to Newport
Today you'll get to enjoy a visit to a local Maple Farm and see how the famous maple syrup is made, with traditional methods paired with technology.
Day 6: Bretton Woods (White Mountains) to Newport
Journey south through pristine forests and onto Rhode Island – The Ocean State – home to spectacular scenery and awe-inspiring architecture. Arrive in Newport where you'll have free time to explore the 'Sailing Capital of the World' and stroll the Cliff Walk where you'll find the famed Gilded Age mansions of wealthy families such as the Astors and the Vanderbilts. Check into Wyndham Newport Hotel & Conference Center, Middletown or similar for an overnight stay.
Day 7: Newport – Cape Cod
Today, you'll leave the opulence of Newport behind as your journey continues to the unspoiled natural beauty of Cape Cod - where you'll find picturesque beaches with rolling sand dunes, beautiful seascapes, and gorgeous sunsets. Your home for the next two nights is Cape Codder Resort & Spa, Hyannis or similar.
Day 8: Cape Cod
Today you can choose to take a well-recommended optional excursion to Martha’s Vineyard (extra charge). A short 45-minute ferry ride from Cape Cod is the island of Martha's Vineyard; spread over 100 square miles are six towns, each with its own proud history and unique character, historic sea captains' homes, charming gingerbread cottages, a quaint fishing village, and five majestic lighthouses. Or you can choose to relax in Cape Cod and enjoy a day on the beaches.
Day 9: Cape Cod to Plymouth to Boston
Today begins with a visit to Plymouth, the town where English colonists first made a home in New England. See Plymouth Rock, where the Mayflower's passengers first set foot in the New World and witness views of Plymouth Harbor and the Mayflower II, a replica of the original Mayflower (onboard admission not included). You’ll then return to Boston, where you'll retrace the steps of the Freedom Trail which may include a stroll beside Boston Common, King's Chapel, the Boston Massacre site, and numerous pubs and taverns where America's Founding Fathers toasted freedom. Enjoy lunch at one of Boston's many restaurants, where you may wish to try a steaming hot cup of traditional New England Clam Chowder (optional – extra charge). Afterwards, explore Quincy Market; Boston's first marketplace from the 1800s, now home to boutiques, cafes, and shops. You'll spend your final night at Holiday Inn Boston Hill Area or similar.
Day 10: Boston to the UK
It's the end of your tour; time to transfer independently to the airport to fly home to London Heathrow aboard Swiss International/United Airlines with many memories to look back on of your Colours of New England adventure.
