• Day 1: Bordeaux, France (Embarkation)

  Fly from selected UK airport to Bordeaux, France and embark on your 14-night cruise on board Avalon Artistry II.

• Day 2: Bordeaux, Pauillac

  Sail along the serene Gironde Estuary and dock at the charming riverside town of Pauillac, nestled in the heart of France’s prestigious Médoc wine region. This picturesque port serves as a gateway to some of the world’s most celebrated vineyards, including Château Lafite Rothschild and Château Mouton Rothschild. Stroll through rolling vineyards and indulge in wine tastings that reveal centuries of tradition and craftsmanship. History lovers can explore the elegant 18th-century architecture lining the waterfront and visit the Church of Saint Martin, a tranquil spot steeped in local heritage. For outdoor enthusiasts, cycling routes wind through scenic countryside and past grand châteaux, while river cruises offer peaceful views of the estuary’s natural beauty. • Day 3: Cussac Fort Medoc

  Cruise along the Gironde Estuary and arrive at the peaceful riverside commune of Cussac-Fort-Médoc, a hidden gem in the heart of the famed Médoc wine region. This tranquil stop offers a gateway to both rich history and world-class vineyards. Step ashore to explore the impressive Fort Médoc, a 17th-century Vauban fortress that, along with the Citadel of Blaye and Fort Pâté, forms a UNESCO-listed defensive trio known as the “Verrou de l’Estuaire.” Wander through its historic ramparts and enjoy panoramic views of the estuary. Wine lovers can venture into nearby châteaux to sample prestigious Bordeaux vintages, while nature enthusiasts can cycle through scenic countryside or stroll along quiet riverbanks. With its blend of heritage, wine culture, and serene landscapes, Cussac-Fort-Médoc offers a refined and relaxing escape into southwestern France.

• Day 4: Blaye-Bourg

  Best known for its Citadel and the red wine produced in the surrounding area, Blaye is a small French town which has a long history of military significance. The Citadel is a military complex which is able to control the flow of river traffic; this is a free attraction and an excellent opportunity to explore the town history and see the spectacular views from the top of the Citadel. See the ruins of the Château des Rudel, a 12th century medieval castle. Discover Côtes de Blaye, the red wine made in the nearby vineyards, and taste in the Maison du Vin on the Cours Vauban or the Cellier des Vignerons in the Citadel. The picturesque fortified town of Bourg is situated in the Gironde region in South West France on the banks of the Dordogne River. Located between three UNESCO heritage sites - Blaye, Saint Emilion, and Bordeaux - Bourg boasts a medieval vibe and a fascinating history. Climb the 500 steps of the King's Stairway up to Chateau de Citadelle, now known as Musee des Caleches, to explore the exhibition of royal horse-drawn carriages, the 16th-century underground passageways, oil tanks, and guard room. Adrenaline junkies can head to the Club Nautique Bourquais for kayaking, rowing, and sailing. Bourg is also home to the vaulted Maison des Vins and the gateway to the Bordeaux wine region for wine-tastings and vineyard tours.

• Day 5: Libourne, Excursion to Saint-Emilion

  Libourne is a town located in Gironde in south-western France. Place Abel-Surchamp is the central square where the town hall and various merchant houses were constructed in the 16th century and onwards. The square is surrounded by traditional arcades; on market days expect a lively atmosphere. Visit the Museum of Fine Arts for interesting collections of both classical and modern art. Stroll along Rue Gambetta, an attractive shopping street that leads to a large open square.

• Day 6-7: Bordeaux Excursion to Arcachon's Bay

  The port city of Bordeaux sits on the Garonne Rive in south-western France, at the heart one of the country's wine-growing regions. Take a stroll around the UNESCO listed Old Town and climb the 229 steps of Pey-Berland Tower at Gothic Cathedrale Saint-Andre. Stop by Place de la Bourse – home to the Miroir d'Eau reflecting pool and the Three Graces fountain. Escape to the tranquil surroundings of Jardin Botanique de Bordeaux or admire the artworks at Musee des Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux. Discover all things wine-related at La Cite du Vin cultural centre, before following one of the six wine routes through Bordeaux Wine Country.

• Day 8: Bordeaux (Disembarkation)

  It’s time to say goodbye to your crew and start the journey home.
