Stoke travel agents climb Scafell Pike in aid of local hospice

01/10/2025

A group of Stoke travel agents have trekked to the peak of Scafell Pike to raise money for a local hospice.

The five-strong team from Hays Travel in Hanley raised over £660 for Dougie Mac, where they provide hospice services to people with life-limiting illnesses in Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire.

The team scaled to the summit of the 978-metre mountain in the Lake District and managed to raise £661 for Dougie Mac.

Angela Dawson, senior business and community fundraiser at the charity, said: “On behalf of everyone at Dougie Mac I’d like to say a huge thank you to the team at Hays Travel, Hanley, for taking on this tough challenge.

“The money they’ve raised will help Dougie Mac to continue its specialist care services for local people facing a life-limiting illness, as well as vital support for their families.

“We’re really grateful to the whole team for their fantastic support.”

The Hays Travel Hanley team climbed Snowdon for charity two years ago, but found this trek even more challenging.

We were so lucky with the weather and had a fantastic day

Travel consultant, Jody Boothby, said: “We completed the climb up Scafell Pike on Sunday 21 September. Having done Snowdon a couple of years previously, we found the hike up Scafell Pike to be much tougher, but it was well worth the effort to raise £661 for the Dougie Mac hospice.

“We were so lucky with the weather and had a fantastic day completing such a challenge for a very worthy cause.”

Each Hays Travel branch is provided with a £500 budget to use for fundraising and charity work in their local area; £200 of this is to be used to fundraise for charities which support young people’s mental health, the rest can be used for other charities chosen by the branch.

In the last year, Hays Travel’s Local Community Partnership initiative across its retail network has donated over £177,000 to local charities.
