The sea doesn’t just stretch north, it tells a story with every wave. From cozy lounges framed by panoramic windows to decks that open onto Norway’s dramatic fjords, Hurtigruten Trollfjord is a ship that carries you deep into the heart of adventure. It’s intimate, it’s inviting, and it’s immersed in nature. Hello, My name is Rachael and I am very passionate about Cruising.

I began working on Board Cruise Ships in the early 80's and loved every minute. I never came back to work on dry land for 20 years. I Love every aspect of a Cruise as it can be as relaxing or as busy as I want it to be. One of my most memorable Cruises was sailing in and out of New York for the first time... I have now worked in the Cruise department of Hays for 15 years and every day is different as there is a perfect Ship to suit everyone.

I was fortunate to sail on Hurtigruten’s Trollfjord from Oslo to Tromsø in September, and the experience was unforgettable. The weather was kind, sparing me the many jumpers and waterproofs I had packed, though Norway is always best approached with preparation in mind. The ship itself is elegant, with a Scandinavian flair to its décor, and my double cabin with a window offered stunning views of the passing landscapes. Dining was a highlight, beginning with Flora, where buffet breakfasts and lunches are served alongside informal dinners featuring regional specialties, including the famous brown cheese.

Beyond Flora, two other restaurants enhanced the culinary journey. Brasserie Arran offered traditional Sami cuisine with a modern twist, available for both lunch and dinner, while Rost delivered a refined “Arctic Fine Dining” experience, with a supplement unless you are a suite guest. Sampling reindeer and other local delicacies was a memorable part of the voyage. The ports we visited were equally enchanting, with options for adventure such as Arctic dips, kayaking, crab fishing, and scenic walks. For something gentler, I enjoyed the Golden Train excursion, widely hailed as Europe’s most scenic rail journey, showcasing Trollveggen, Kylling Bridge, Verma Waterfall, and the emerald Rauma River.

I Love every aspect of a Cruise as it can be as relaxing or as busy as I want it to be

Life onboard balanced activity with relaxation. Evenings were generally quiet, as most passengers rose early for excursions, though the crossing of the Arctic Circle brought the liveliest celebration. This quirky tradition involves King Neptune pouring ice down your back, followed by a warming shot of cloudberry wine, making it an unforgettable highlight. With its blend of comfort, scenery, cuisine, and unique experiences, Hurtigruten delivers a luxurious yet authentic way to discover Norway’s best. This journey is one that belongs on every traveler’s bucket list.
