My name is Becky and have been working for Hays Travel for over 12 years.

I love cruising and waking up every day to a new destination to experience a new culture and have a new adventure. From the sunrises to the stunning sunsets, every moment onboard is pure magical - This is the reason I love selling cruises and I believe there is a ship for everyone and if you haven't cruises before - definitely add it your bucket list.

As a child I never appreciated how lucky I was to visit this amazing city — Hong Kong. While all my school friends went to Europe, I was visiting family in Hong Kong during the summer holidays. Back then, I didn’t realise how special that was. As I’ve gotten older and returned to visit, I’m constantly amazed by how beautiful and diverse the city is. From skyscrapers stacked like bookshelves to attractions for all ages — the Ngong Ping 360 cable car, the Tian Tan Buddha, Hong Kong Disneyland — there’s so much to explore. And of course, don’t forget to eat a fresh egg tart or the famous crispy pineapple bun from a local cha chaan teng.

Hong Kong also has many unspoilt beaches where you can barbecue, chill, and watch the sunset. Try visiting Shek O, Repulse Bay, or Cheung Chau — just 30 minutes away by ferry. Sai Kung is perfect for the freshest seafood. Shopping is another highlight — you’ll find all the international designer brands in sleek shopping centres, but why not test your haggling skills at the Ladies Market in Mong Kok for some real bargains. For the men, Hong Kong is a paradise for the latest trainers, cutting-edge technology, and cool gadgets — often available here before they hit the shelves in England.

Near to Hong Kong is Macau — Asia’s version of Las Vegas. With themed hotels just like the Strip, it’s only 45 minutes away by boat and makes for a great day trip. Visit the ruins of St. Paul’s, try freshly made beef and pork jerky, pork chop buns, ginger milk, and almond cakes. Flying to Hong Kong from the UK couldn’t be easier — with daily direct flights from Cathay Pacific and British Airways. Or take a connecting flight with Etihad and enjoy a two-night free hotel stay in Abu Dhabi. You can also fly with Air China via Shanghai and get a 72-hour visa-free stay to explore another vibrant city.

Getting around Hong Kong couldn’t be easier. The underground is quick, efficient, and fully air-conditioned. You’ve got red taxis for Kowloon, green ones for the New Territories, plus buses, the Star Ferry, mini vans, Uber, and trams. Whether you’re arriving on a cruise, planning a city break, or stopping over on your way elsewhere, Hong Kong is a destination not to miss.
