Baltic Capitals – Tallinn, Riga & Vilnius

Tour Itinerary

• Day 1 • Fly to Tallinn & Evening At Leisure

  Arrive in Tallinn, Estonia’s capital on the Baltic Sea, where you’ll be met by your tour manager and driven to your centrally located hotel. Once you’ve checked in, you’re free to relax or perhaps venture out into the city’s walled old town to explore.

• Day 2 • Tour of Tallinn

  After breakfast, enjoy a guided walking tour of Tallinn, beginning in the medieval Lower Town with its guild houses, warehouses, Raekoja Plats, and the Gothic Town Hall, the oldest in Europe. Continue to Toompea Hill to see Toompea Castle, Pikk Hermann Tower, and the onion-domed Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, then take in panoramic city views before visiting Kadriorg Palace, the 18th-century baroque residence founded by Peter the Great, set within landscaped gardens and Kadriorg Park. The afternoon is free to explore before returning to the hotel.

• Day 3 • Travel to Tartu

  After breakfast, travel through Estonia’s forests to Tartu, the country’s historic university city and a 2024 European Capital of Culture, nicknamed “Athens-upon-Emajõgi” for its classical architecture. Explore the Old Town around the neoclassical university building and Town Hall Square, see the 18th-century Town Hall and Kissing Students statue, visit the university museum in the former Dome Church ruins and the Estonian National Museum, and enjoy views from Toomemäe Hill Park before returning to the hotel.

• Day 4 • Riga, Gauja National Park & Sigulda

  After breakfast, travel south into Latvia, stopping at Gauja National Park to admire its striking rock formations and rich wildlife before continuing through the Gauja River Valley to Sigulda for lunch, where you’ll see a 13th-century castle and the Gutmanala sandstone grotto, the largest in the Baltics. The day ends in Riga, where you’ll check into your hotel.

• Day 5 • Tour of Riga

  After breakfast, enjoy a guided walking tour of Riga’s Old Town along the Daugava River, visiting the Romanesque Riga Cathedral, the rebuilt Church of St. Peter, Riga Castle on the riverfront, and the historic Swedish Gate. Then take a coach tour through the central boulevards to admire the city’s renowned Art Nouveau architecture, especially along Alberta Street, before free time to explore and dine at leisure this evening.

• Day 6 • Vilnius, Rundale Palace & the Hill of Crosses

  After breakfast, travel to Vilnius with stops at the 18th-century Rundāle Palace, Latvia’s finest Baroque landmark and former summer residence of Duke Ernst Johann Biron, where a guided tour reveals its grand interiors, formal gardens, and museum collections designed by Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli. Continue to Šiauliai’s Hill of Crosses, a powerful pilgrimage site covered in thousands of crosses and rosaries symbolising Lithuania’s enduring faith, pause for lunch locally, and then proceed to Vilnius to check into your hotel.

• Day 7 • Vilnius & Trakai Castle

  Spend your final day exploring Vilnius, beginning with the neoclassical Vilnius Cathedral and historic Pilies Street, lined with 14th-century buildings and local shops, before visiting St. Anne’s, St. Bernardine’s, and St. Michael’s Churches, the Gates of Dawn, and the Orthodox Church of the Holy Spirit. Continue to Vilnius University with its 13 courtyards, then travel to Trakai Castle, the island fortress on Lake Galvė, to tour its museum and grounds, returning for an evening at leisure in the city.

• Day 8 • Fly back to the UK

  Have breakfast before you travel to Vilnius airport for your morning flight back to the UK.
