New York State Adventure by Motorhome Itinerary

• Day 1 • Arrive in New York

  Arrive in New York for an overnight stay.

• Day 2 • Start your journey in your Motorhome

  Make your own way to collect your Cruise America RV from our New York City East NYE location in Bay Shore 32 miles from JFK Airport. You won’t have to travel very far before the scenery changes from concrete to lush green hillsides and leafy hamlets with the might Hudson River as you're travelling companion. As it is your first day on the road, we would suggest staying in the Newburgh area. Take a guided tour of West Point, the United States Military Academy (must be booked in advance) or shop until you drop at the world’s largest collection of luxury designer outlets at Woodbury Common Outlet mall.

• Day 3-4 • Hudson Valley & The Catskills

  Spend the next few days enjoying everything the Hudson Valley and the Catskills have to offer. Just north of Newburgh enjoy the scenic splendour of the longest elevated pedestrian walkway in the world at the Walkway Over the Hudson before continuing to Hyde Park and the home and birthplace of Franklin D. Roosevelt, the 32nd and longest serving president of the United States. Enjoy time in the vast presidential library and over 1000 acres of beautiful parkland. 62 miles to Catskill. Ride the Catskill Mountain Railroad from Kingston to the top of Hurley Mountain. Learn about one of the preeminent American families of the late 19th and early 20th centuries at the Vanderbilt Mansion Historic Site.

• Day 5-6 • Great Wilderness Areas

  Continue north deeper into the beauty of New York state and into the great wilderness areas. The drive will take you through Albany, the state capital and its magnificent New York State Capitol building and just north of Albany is Saratoga, with its famous Saratoga Racecourse, America’s oldest sporting venue. If travelling between late July and early September, you can stop and see thoroughbred horse racing at its very best. For the next few nights, we suggest staying in the vast expanse and enchanting peaks of the Adirondack mountains. Famous for Lake Placid, the home of the 1980 winter Olympics amongst many other natural attractions. 172 miles to Lake Placid. Stop at Lake George, known as the “Queen of the American Lakes” and get on the water with the Lake George Steamboat Company. Enjoy endless outdoor pursuits at the Whiteface ski resort, including adventure zones, downhill mountain biking and ride the ‘Cloudsplitter’ gondola, one of the most scenic in North America.

• Day 7 • Head towards to Lake Ontario

  Head out of the mountains and vast wilderness of the Adirondacks and towards the beautiful coastline of Lake Ontario and the Thousand Islands-Seaway region of the state. Our suggested stop is at Southwick Beach State Park. The park is known for its outstanding swimming opportunities along its long sandy beach. Book well in advance for the opportunity to camp just metres from the beach. 153 miles to Southwick Beach State Park. For all things nautical stop in Clayton and visit the Antique Boat Museum, one of the best of its kind in North America. Take in some fascinating history at the Sackets Harbor Battlefield site and enjoy some time on the coast with hiking, swimming and family activities at Southwick State Park.

• Day 8-9 • West New York

  Today is a long drive and for the most part it will be along the interstate as you head west through upper New York state. Break up the journey in the lovely coastal town of Oswego before arriving in the Niagara Falls region. Make a stop in Buffalo with its redeveloped waterfront and its many Frank Lloyd Wright designed buildings before making the short journey to the magnificent and awe-inspiring Niagara Falls for the next 2 nights allowing you a full day to explore all the attractions on offer. 214 miles to Niagara Falls. Explore the base of the falls aboard the Maid of the Mist or walk along the wooden walkways to get an up-close experience of Bridal Veil Falls. Stay for the evening illuminations with an array of vibrant colors.

• Day 10-11 • Lakes & Hills

  Head east across the open spaces of central New York state. Do stop in the Finger Lakes region enroute. Eleven long narrow bodies of water cut into the hillsides that make it an outdoors paradise and New York’s premier wine growing region. It is also a region famous for its waterfalls with Taughannock Falls, one of the highest east of the Mississippi. As you are approaching from the north, the small and pretty town of Geneva sitting at the head of Seneca Lake would make a great stop. Make your way over to Syracuse, NY, for an urban adventure. Explore Downtown via foot or bike and find out where urban and nature meet along the multi-use Onondaga Creekwalk — a 2.6- mile trail along Onondaga Creek connecting Armory Square to Onondaga Lake. 162 miles to Syracuse. Visit one of over 200 wineries in the Finger Lakes region renowned for their Riesling to see why this a region like no other. For the meat-lovers, don’t miss the famous Dinosaur Bar-B-Que in downtown Syracuse and enjoy the nightlife and restaurants of the Armory Square district.

• Day 12 • Picturesque Views

  Shortly after leaving Syracuse, make a stop at Chittenango State Park with its impressive 167ft waterfall before continuing to Cooperstown, affectionately known as ‘America’s hometown’. This small, picturesque town is famous for being the hallowed home of the National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum. 94 miles to Cooperstown. Enjoy acclaimed opera and musical theatre at the lakeside Glimmerglass festival. Ride into history and beautiful scenery on the Cooperstown & Charlotte Valley Railroad.

• Day 13-14 • Through the heart of the State

  Today drive through the heart of the state along many of its quieter roads passing by quaint little towns, covered bridges and idyllic rural landscapes. For those of a certain age and/or interested in iconic cultural events of the 20th century, your stop for the night is around the town of Bethel. This is the physical location of legendary 1969 Woodstock Festival, one of the largest music festivals in history and which became synonymous with the counterculture of the 1960’s. 90 miles to Bethel. Visit Bethel Woods Center for the Arts and immerse yourself in the culture and music of the 1960’s and stand in the footprints of where Jimmy Hendrix made history in front of nearly half a million people.

• Day 15 • Finish your Journey in New York

  Finish your epic New York state itinerary and drive the approximately 157 miles back to our New York City East (NYE) depot, 1490 Sunrise Hwy, Bay Shore, NY 11706, USA. Own transfers back to the airport Depart New York for an overnight flight home.
