• Day 1: UK to Tokyo, Japan

  Fly from your UK airport to Tokyo and embark onboard Oceania Riviera for your 19 night cruise

• Day 2: Tokyo, Japan

  Tokyo port is situated in the heart of the Tokyo metropolis. This striking city is home to Japan's politics, economy, and culture. The waterfront where you'll dock is just a short distance from where you can jump on the bullet train, which serves as a great way of travelling around Japan. The Japanese take shopping seriously, and Tokyo has some of the best shopping districts to explore. For some peace and quiet, visit Hamarikyu Gardens; a large attractive landscape garden.

• Day 4: Aomori, Japan

  Aomori is the capital city of Aomori Prefecture, and is located in the northern region of Japan. This stunning city is famous for its beautiful apple orchards and cherry blossoms that cover the landscape. The snow-covered Hakkoda Mountains are the perfect backdrop for this lively city. Visit the Nebuta Museum Wa Rasse which is dedicated to the city’s famous summer Nebuta Matsuri festival. Gaze in awe at the floats up close without having to jostle for a place in the festival streets. Alternatively, journey back in time and spend an afternoon at the reconstructed village at Sannai-Maruyama Ruins.

• Day 5: Hakodate (Hokkaido), Japan

  Hakodate is one of the main cities on Japan's northernmost island, Hokkaido. Admire the 334m-high Mount Hakodate that looms over the town; ride the aerial ropeway gondola to the mountain's summit for Michelin-starred views of the nightscape. At its base is Motomachi, a neighbourhood of steep streets with Western-style, early-20th-century buildings. Pay a visit the grand Old Public Hall of Hakodate Ward which was built in 1910. Stop by Hakodate Asaichi morning market to taste the Kaisendon local delicacy – a bowl of white rice topped with fresh seafood. Hop on the city tram to see the unique star-shaped Fort Goyokaku or take a train ride to Yunokawa Onsen hot spring resort to soak in the therapeutic waters.

• Day 6: Kushiro (Hokkaido), Japan

  The city of Kushiro sits on the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido. It is most famous for the large Kushiro Marsh, which is home to deer, sea eagles, and Japanese cranes; follow the circular trail that runs through the marsh from the Kushiro Marsh Observatory. Head to the coastal Fisherman’s Wharf to explore restaurants and the glass-covered EGG Garden. Nearby you'll find Hokkaido Kushiro Art Museum, which hosts photography and sculpture works by local artists. Get up close to indigenous wildlife and marine life at Kushiro Zoo. The caldera lakes including Lake Akan are a sight to behold especially in the summer months, or you can go hiking up the nearby impressive Mt Meakan and Mt Oakan. No visit to Kushiro would be complete without sampling the special Katte Don dish or Hokkaido crabs.

  There is only one place in the world where you can experience the feeling of adding or losing a day within the span of a second! The International Date Line passes through the mid-Pacific Ocean and follows a 180 degrees longitude north-south line on the surface of Earth - England's Greenwich being the prime meridian at the 0 degrees longitude line - and is recognised worldwide as the official boundary where one calendar day starts and another calendar day ends. If you're travelling through the Pacific Ocean you're often recommended to change your watch by 24 hours to stop the confusion of losing or gaining a day!

• Day 13: Kodiak, Alaska

  Kodiak is one of Alaska’s major fishing hubs and is often referred to as the ‘emerald isle’ due to its crystal blue waters. It encompasses the city centre and a handful of villages, as well as being a base for the US Coast Guard. Take a stroll around the 182-acre Fort Abercrombie State Historical Park with its bounty of trails, rocky viewpoints, and beaches. Visit the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge and gaze in awe at the hanging whale skeleton on display or experience Kodiak’s wildlife up close with Kodiak Island Van Tours - you might even catch sight of the famous Kodiak brown bear!

• Day 14: Anchorage (Whittier), Alaska

  Alaska’s largest city, Anchorage, has a metropolitan feel in the heart of the wilderness. Explore the culture of 11 Alaskan indigenous groups at Alaska Native Heritage Center; including six traditional dwellings around Lake Tiulana, artworks at Hall of Culture, and educational films at the Theater. Witness an array of Alaskan and Arctic art and historic items at the glass-fronted Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center; including the Spark!Lab, Smithsonian Arctic Studies Center, and Thomas Planetarium. Get up close to native wildlife at Alaska Zoo and adopted orphan and injured animals at Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. See restored vintage aircraft take-off and land on nearby Lake Hood at Alaska Aviation Heritage Museum. Anchorage is also gateway to Denali National Park's Ruth Glacier, Chugach State Park and Portage Glacier at the adjoining Chugach National Forest; skiing at Mount Alyeska Resort, and the Kenai Peninsula's Kanai Fjords National Park and Exit Glacier.

• Day 15: Cruising Hubbard Glacier

  Hubbard Glacier is located in eastern Alaska's Wrangell-St Elias National Park and Preserve and Canada's Kluane National Park and Reserve in Yukon and is the largest and most active tidewater glacier in North America. Named after Gardiner Hubbard - the first president of the National Geographic Society - Hubbard Glacier spans 76 miles and 1,200 feet in depth in pristine Disenchantment Bay. The glacier dwarfs the cruise ships that pass it and regularly calves mini glaciers the size of ten-storey buildings! The surrounding area is a haven for wildlife — from whales, otters, and harbour seals in the water to moose, brown bears, and black-tailed deer on the shoreline.

• Day 16: Sitka, Alaska

  Sitka is an Alaskan city and borough close to the state capital of Juneau; it's located on Baranof Island and was once the capital of Russian America. The main attraction here is Sitka National Historical Park which was established in 1804 and, since then, has preserved the culture of the local Tlingit people and Russian and American settlers. The park houses a collection of rare artefacts including the preserved remains of the Tlingit fort and a Russian house. A visit to the Sitka Cultural Centre will allow insight into the region’s history and a vast display of film presentations, walking trails lined with totem poles, and artwork enhance this experience. If you're a thrill seeker; perhaps explore the pristine bays by kayak or hike through one of the many forest trails.

• Day 17: Wrangell, Alaska

  Surrounded by mountains, islands, and rainforests; the Alaskan city and borough of Wrangell is a naturally beautiful place just waiting to be explored. See bears in their natural habitat at Anan Creek Bear Observatory or at the Anan Wildlife Observatory. Get a historical overview of Wrangell at the Wrangell Museum. Admire the majestic glaciers with a LeConte Glacier Tour or go on a guided fishing trip. Cruise the 60-mile-long pristine Stikine River extending from British Columbia to Wrangell. Finish your visit by taking a hike and surrounding yourself with beautiful scenery and nature at Mount Dewey Trail.

• Day 18: Prince Rupert, British Columbia, Canada

  The Canadian city of Prince Rupert sits on the edge of the wilderness at the mouth of the Skeena River on British Columbia's northwest coast. Venture ashore and take part in outdoor pursuits such as sport fishing or a walking tour of the bonsai-like forest at Oliver Lake. Visit the picturesque Cow Bay waterfront and sip a coffee in a cafe by the water's edge. Get up close to the local wildlife at the Khutzeymateen Grizzly Sanctuary or keep your eyes peeled for humpback whales in the fish-filled offshore waters. Explore the area's natural and cultural heritage at Na Xbiisa Lagigyet - Museum of Northern British Columbia and learn about the city's salmon-canning heritage at North Pacific Cannery.
