Spend the day at Costa Maya's largest town Mahahual - bask on its pristine beaches, try your hand at water sports like paddle boarding, or go fishing for local tuna, snapper, and marlin. The offshore Banco Chinchorro Biosphere Reserve's reefs and mangroves are teeming with sharks, dolphins, and turtles; while to the north, you can keep your eyes peeled for jaguars, monkeys, and hundreds of bird species at Sian Ka'an Biosphere. Relish tubing or kayaking on the turquoise waters of Laguna Bacalar - the Lake of Seven Colours - and step back to Mayan times at the Museum of the Mayan Culture in Chetumal and the mystical Chacchoben, Kohunlich, Dzibanche, and Kinichna Ruins.
