• Day 5: Newport, USA

  Newport in Rhode Island is one of North America's oldest cities. This remarkable place is packed to the brim with attractions — from the National Historic Landmarks District, Brick Market Museum and White Horse Tavern, to the Old Colony House, Quaker Meeting House, Trinity Church, and Touro Synagogue. Explore the life of the Vanderbilts on a tour of The Breakers and Marble House or discover early 20th-century high society at The Elms French-style chateau. Rough Point on opulent Bellevue Avenue and the famous Astor’s Beechwood Mansion are well worth a visit, too! Uncover the history of tennis at Tennis Hall of Fame, then admire historic and modern artworks at Newport Art Museum.

• Day 6: Boston, USA

  Boston is Massachusetts’ capital and largest city. Rich in history, this bustling city is the perfect size to explore within one day. Walk along The Freedom Trail and discover 16 locations significant to the history of the United States. Take a stroll through the oldest city park in the United States, Boston Common, and take in the sweeping views of green fields, lakes, and historic monuments. Gaze in awe at the towering sky line from the stunning waterfront and visit the historic Faneuil Hall, the home of America's first town meeting.

• Day 7: Portland (Maine), USA

  The city of Portland sits on a peninsula extending out into Casco Bay in the USA state of Maine. Meander through the working fishing wharves and restaurant and shop-filled converted warehouses at the Old Port waterfront. Walk up to the Western Promenade cliff-top park to enjoy the far-reaching vistas; before exploring the Victorian-style homes and Victoria Museum in the nearby West End district. Admire the flora and fauna at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens or enjoy family-friendly fun at Funtown Splashtown or Palace Playland. Enjoy a spot of culture at Ogunquit Museum of American Art, Museums of Old York, Portland Museum of Art, and Children's Museum of Maine. No visit to Portland would be complete without visiting its most famous lighthouse, Portland Head Light, which still guides ships into Portland Harbour today.

• Day 8: St John Bay Of Funday, Canada

  St John sits on the coast of the Canadian province of New Brunswick; on a rocky estuarine spur where the Saint John River flows into the beautiful Bay of Fundy. Take a stroll through King's Square with its two-storey bandstand and colourful flowerbeds and trees. Shop for food and handicrafts at Saint John City Market. Step back in time as you view the merchandise, artefacts, barbershop, and dental office at Barbour's General Store. Explore 18th-century military life at Carleton Martello Tower and witness panoramic views from Fort Howe National Historic Site. Admire the eye-catching Reversing Falls from the Reversing Falls Bridge. Encounter over 250 species of birds at Irving Nature Park or get up close to the exotic Siberian Tiger and Goeldi’s Monkey at Cherry Brook Zoo.

• Day 9: Halifax (Nova Scotia), Canada

  Found on the Atlantic Ocean coast, Halifax is the provincial capital of Canada's Nova Scotia and is home to one of the world's largest natural harbours. The heart of Canada's east coast art scene, you can explore a variety of galleries and museums to find everything from folk art to relics of the Mi'kmaq people. Visit Fisherman's Cove — a 200-year-old restored village — and stroll around a traditional farmers' market to find tasty, local food and drink. Learn about the city's heritage at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic or stroll through the pretty displays at Halifax Public Gardens.
