Travel agents’ charity event raises £1,200 for local food bank

A group of Castleford travel agents have raised £1,200 for their local food bank by organising a fundraising event at their store.

The team from Hays Travel on Carlton Street in Castleford arranged a charity day on 25 November which included a bake sale, tombola, raffle, book sale, and spin the wheel game.

Travel consultant, Hannah Colyer, said:Our Castleford community really dug deep on the day and it was a great success. 

“We wanted to support the Castleford Food Bank at The Link this year, where they operate a weekly food bank for vulnerable families in the Castleford area as well as providing a variety of activities and community groups.”

Nobody has ever donated this much before

Chris Riley, of Castleford Food Bank, said: "You've all worked so hard! Nobody has ever donated this much before.

"The money you have raised is enough for us to run for two months, providing the most vulnerable in our community with food this winter. We can't thank you enough."

Hays Travel is the UK’s largest independent travel agent, with branches across the UK - all committed to supporting their customers and the local communities they serve.

Each Hays Travel branch is provided with a £500 budget to use for fundraising and charity work in their local area; £200 of this is to be used to fundraise for charities which support young people’s mental health, and the other £300 can be used for charities chosen by the branch.

In the last year, Hays Travel’s Local Community Partnership initiative across its retail network has donated over £177,000 to local charities.
