A group of travel agents from Topsham have cycled the distance from their shop to their company’s head office in Sunderland to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.
The team from Hays Travel in Topsham raised almost £700 for the charity with a sponsored in-store cycle.
During the week of 23 February, the team cycled the distance from their shop on Fore Street to Hays Travel head office in Sunderland on an in-store exercise bike.
The five-strong team had to cover more than 70 miles a day to reach their 362-mile target.
Branch manager, Claire Raddon, said: “We had to each do about 15 miles a day but some days it was more to cover staff days off. We hit our target by Friday afternoon, so we just carried on throughout Saturday and hit 400 miles.
We had such a good response from the community
“We chose Prostate Cancer UK as a number of our relatives sadly have had the condition so it means a lot to us.
“We had such a good response from the community - they all loved it!”
The event raised a whopping £689 for Prostate Cancer UK.
Hays Travel is the UK’s largest independent travel agent, with branches across the UK - all committed to supporting their customers and the local communities they serve.
Each Hays Travel branch is provided with a £500 budget to use for fundraising and charity work in their local area; £200 of this is to be used to fundraise for charities which support young people’s mental health, and the other £300 can be used for charities chosen by the branch.
In the last year, Hays Travel’s Local Community Partnership initiative across its retail network has donated almost £170,000 to local charities.
