Top 10 Tips for Travelling Solo with Just You!

09/05/2025

There's so much to think about when travelling solo. So we've called upon the solo touring experts — Just You! Here are their top ten tips for making sure your Just You solo holiday is a success!

1) Always travel with a reputable firm

Choose your travel firm wisely, and always book with Just You – we are the solo traveller specialist, after all! Every one of our holidays is ATOL protected and if yours includes a flight, it’s covered by our financial protection insurance too. What's more, we have 25 years of expertise in creating holidays for solo travellers, and there’s never a single supplement in sight!

2) Choose the right holiday for you

Decisions, decisions! No matter where in the world you want to go or what you want to do once you’re there, we have a holiday for you! You can stay close to home with a break here in the UK, head to one of Europe’s most popular destinations, or set off on a true bucket list adventure to the other side of the world. You can stay put in one incredible place, tour an entire country, get active in the great outdoors or simply relax. The choice is all yours.

3) Find out more before you go

You should find all the information you need about your holiday in our holiday brochures, website and by speaking to your local Hays Travel agent. They know all there is to know about our holidays and if they’re not sure about a query you have, they’ll find out for you.

4) Chat with other Just You customers

It has never been easier to meet other Just You customers before you even travel, simply visit the Just You Community. Here you can chat with people who have been on your holiday previously or meet those who are actually going to be travelling with you. You can also ask our editor any questions you have, and you’re sure to stumble upon some top tips and really useful advice. Everything you need is just a click away.

5) Enjoy doing something for yourself

Travelling independently is liberating. Don’t think of it as being selfish, think of it as treating yourself to something you deserve. If your dream holiday is different to that of your partner or friends, why deny yourself a wonderful experience – go it alone and do something that’s just for you.

6) Get to know your fellow travellers

Our community is a great way to chat with fellow travellers before you set off on your adventure, but when it comes to meeting them in person, we make that really straightforward too. Firstly, they should be easy to spot at the airport thanks to their brightly coloured Just You luggage labels! If you’re on a long-haul holiday, they’ll probably be in the airport lounge with you enjoying some VIP treatment before the flight, and once at your hotel, our welcome get-together is sure to get you all mingling!

7) Switch your phone off and take it all in

We can’t seem to live without our mobile phones these days but we say switch it off and truly immerse yourself in your holiday – unless you’re using it to take pictures, of course! Instead of updating social media as you go, why not keep your eyes firmly on the action, and write a diary at the end of every action-packed day? And there’s no better way to make lasting memories of your trip than by sharing stories with your travelling companions over dinner.

8) Try something new

If you’re a first-time Just You traveller, you’re already trying something new simply by taking the plunge! But there are plenty of other firsts to enjoy. For starters, learn the lingo of your holiday destination, just a few words and phrases will do. Don’t be afraid to try the local food and drink, and why not spark up a conversation with someone you’ve never met before – it may just make your holiday!

9) Don’t worry about being alone

You are never alone on a Just You holiday unless you want to be. You’ll be travelling with a group of like-minded people and your Holiday Director will be with you every step of the way.

10) Immerse yourself and enjoy!

With the huge choice of Just You holidays, the hardest part is choosing where to go. Once you’ve done that, all you have to do is throw yourself into the holiday spirit, give yourself a pat on the back for making a great decision, and just enjoy yourself!
