I have worked in Travel for over 30 years and I have been lucky enough to travel to a variety of different destinations and have many more on my bucket list!I have been to the Caribbean. Maldives, Greece, Spain, Cruises and many different cities. This year I have been to New York , Florida and Rome. I have worked in store and currently I work with the Hays Travel Virtual Contact Centre Team.

Rome is a captivating blend of ancient history and modern charm, where every street tells a story. From the grandeur of the Colosseum to the awe-inspiring Vatican City, Rome offers a journey through time unlike any other. Wander cobbled alleys, sip espresso in sunlit piazzas, and marvel at Renaissance masterpieces. The city’s rich culture, world-class cuisine, and vibrant atmosphere make it a dream destination for every traveler. Whether you're exploring ruins, indulging in gelato, or tossing a coin into the Trevi Fountain, Rome promises unforgettable moments. It’s not just a city-it’s an experience that stays with you long after you leave.

I’ve been to Rome three times, and each visit has been unforgettable. The first time was just for a day while on a cruise, but I instantly fell in love with the city’s charm and history. My most recent trip was in August, when I stayed on the outskirts of the city. I used the Metro and bus links to get around, which were surprisingly efficient and easy to navigate. Rome’s public transport made it simple to explore all the major sights without staying in the busy centre. It’s a great option for travellers looking to save money while still experiencing everything the city has to offer.

Rome; Eternal city of timeless wonder

During my visit, I highly recommend pre-booking tickets for the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Vatican City. This saves a lot of time and helps avoid long queues, especially in peak seasons. The Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, and Pantheon were absolutely breathtaking and well worth the visit. Rome is a city where history meets beauty at every corner. The food was another highlight-there’s something for every budget, from street pizza to elegant trattorias. Whether you’re after a quick bite or a full Italian feast, you’ll find plenty of delicious options to suit your taste.

The weather in August was extremely hot, but surprisingly, the city was less crowded than expected. In contrast, my visit in March was much cooler and more comfortable, but it was noticeably busier with tourists. Each season offers a different experience, and both have their advantages. Rome is a city I never tire of, and I know I’ll definitely be going back again. There’s always something new to discover, whether it’s a hidden piazza, a quiet café, or a stunning piece of ancient architecture. It truly is a timeless destination.
