Ready to drop anchor in adventure? If you're dreaming of a luxury cruise that blends wild, windswept landscapes with historic charm and world-class indulgence, this is the blog for you! Laura, our Cruise Commercial Assistant Manager, set sail in style with Seabourn from close to home Scotland, and she’s here to tell you all about it.
Let’s dive into the day-by-day magic of her epic northern voyage.

Meet Laura!
I recently hopped aboard Seabourn Venture in the Shetland Islands for a 5-night sector as she completed her 14-day Circumnavigation of Iceland that started in Reykjavik.
As Cruise Commercial Assistant Manager and Account Manager for Seabourn at Hays Travel, this was the perfect chance to get a first-hand glimpse behind the brand and see what it truly means to cruise with the signature Seabourn Difference.
And let me tell you, it was everything I thought and more!

Day 1: Shetland Magic & Seabourn Luxury
I had never been to the Shetland Islands before. But landing in Sumburgh for the first time was nothing short of breathtaking. Those scenic views really do live up to the hype! On arrival, we were whisked up to Lerwick, where the stunning Seabourn Venture awaited us. After a quick coffee and check-in, we settled into our cosy suites, home for the next five nights.
As soon as I stepped into my Suite (808, deck 8, Port Side), it exuded sumptuous luxury, practicality and comfort. There was a chilled bottle of Champagne waiting to toast to the voyage ahead, along with a complimentary rucksack, hat and expedition-style jackets.
After unpacking and free time settling into our suites, we gathered at the Discovery Lounge on Deck 4 for the daily debrief, listening to the day's stories about wildlife and local adventures with Expedition Leaders. The highlight of day one? An unforgettable performance by Lerwick’s own Up Helly Aa band, sharing Viking tales and tunes that had everyone smiling. A pre-dinner cocktail set the mood before a mouthwatering 4-course dinner that satisfied every craving on board. The choices were limitless, and everyone had something different, which all looked divine.
Day 2: Lerwick to Puffin Paradise at Fair Isle
I started the day with an extra special treat, a dreamy in-suite breakfast. White crisp tablecloth, full table set up, attentive service, and ocean views, this was an in-suite dining I could get used to, and it’s always included with Seabourn! Afterwards, I toured the stunning Seabourn Venture. I started off at the front of the ship on Deck 9, the Constellation Lounge. This beautifully relaxed space is tastefully appointed with the stars in mind, offering stunning views over the ever-changing vistas of the ocean. In this lounge, afternoon tea is served if requested, and it also boasts incredible outdoor views from the bow of the ship, just above the Bridge. Next up was the aft of the ship, where there is a stunning infinity pool and two whirlpools with a spacious sun deck.
As we sailed, we had a unique visit to the submersible garage, hearing tales from pilots who explore uncharted waters worldwide. We had a brief Q&A session with them and it was truly fascinating to see the technology behind submersibles.
Seabourn Venture arrived at Fair Isle, and very quickly, zodiacs were in the water, preparing for a seamless disembark. Hiking cliff trails with panoramic views, I spotted adorable puffins fluttering back to their nests (very ungracefully). Nature’s little comedians, I could have watched them all day. On our zodiac ride back, we spotted a small hillside cave, which our driver was more than happy to explore. All the while, we were joined by playful grey seals popping their heads up to see what we were up to. Back onboard? A 4-course delight topped off with great company and a sneak peek of tomorrow’s adventures awaited.
Day 3: Ancient Mysteries & Charming Villages in Orkney
Morning briefing time with a side of coffee, a perfect combo before jumping into the zodiacs to say hello to Kirkwall. I opted for a sightseeing tour taking in the enchanting Ring of Brodgar, a Neolithic stone circle steeped in mystery, and the beautiful fishing village of Stromness. Our guide took us from the port of Kirkwall inland, telling us about the local land, produce and places of historical reference as we travelled along. Before long, we arrived at the atmospheric site of the Ring of Brodgar.
This site gave Stonehenge vibes. No one truly knows the reason for the stone circle, although the largest of them all has been tested and is more magnetic than the other stones and interestingly has been hit by lightning twice! This silent and mysterious monument is a remnant of an ancient culture. It may have been a place of ritual, spectacle and community gatherings. After a short walk around the circle, it was time to move on to the village of Stromness. This was such a lovely village to meander around with views of the peaceful bay and towering hills of Hoy in the distance. I visited the famous bakery in the village – Argo’s and sampled some deliciously sumptuous Orkney ice cream and bought some irresistible Orkney fudge.
Later, we learned haunting wartime tales at Scapa Flow before ending the day with a Bailey’s hot chocolate and a gourmet dinner. The night closed with lively Orkney music and cocktails made by our favourite bartender, Ronaldo, at The Club.
Day 4: Adventure at Isles of Copinsay
Excitement buzzed as we prepped for a once-in-a-lifetime submersible dive! Calm seas and sunshine set the scene as we boarded the zodiac, ready to be plunged beneath the waves. The ship looked fantastic, basking in the early morning sunshine as our eyes scanned the horizon for the submersible. That’s when we caught a glimpse of Isaac, our submersible pilot, casually sitting on top of the sub, steering it in our direction.
Before long, we boarded and vanished beneath the waves, and it quickly became very serene as we spotted jellyfish and diving seabirds. It was a truly incredible experience. The adventure continued with a zodiac wildlife tour.
Back on board, lobster bisque and fresh pizzas fuelled a relaxing afternoon by the infinity pool and hot tub. The day ended with an exclusive sushi cocktail party, live piano music, and a jaw-dropping sunset that painted the sky. A sunset vista at sea just hits differently, an uninterrupted view of the horizon where the sky and sea meet. It’s just so special. The staff were invited to share this memorable evening with guests, who during the entire voyage had gotten to know one another, share stories of adventures and tales from home. A late night of music, dancing and fun was had before retiring to our suites with sore feet but a headful of memories.
Day 5: Sea Day Shenanigans
A slow sea day meant, for me, one thing... time to head to the gym to work off the overindulgences of the previous evening. And then, Seabourn’s last day at sea tradition- the hilarious Seabourn Teddy Toss competition! The goal: get your teddy from Deck 9 to Deck 4 and land it in the bucket. It was fierce competition and a lot of fun watching guests and teddies flying from deck to deck!
At 2 pm, an announcement came over the intercom system to advise that the Bridge was open for a tour. The Bridge tour let us learn about the technology behind this incredible vessel and answered all my burning ship questions. Like, is that really what you steer the ship with?! What does that button do? Where is the foghorn? Are there window wipers on the windows?
After the tour was over, I headed back to my suite to sadly pack up my bags ahead of dinner. Before our last meal, we took the opportunity to go right to the front of the ship for a group picture. I had my Seabourn moment at the front of the ship, just like Rose in the movie Titanic, it really does feel like you’re flying! Our last meal was a feast for the senses, with everything from flavourful bisques, crispy seafood cakes and angel hair pasta dishes to pan-seared salmon fillets, steaks and seafood aplenty! We lingered over dinner, enjoying our group’s company for one last night, before, with full bellies and warm hearts, we settled in early, ready for our grand arrival into London tomorrow.
Day 6: Sunrise Farewells in London
At 5.30 am, I awoke to the slowing of the ship, bounced out of bed and threw back the curtains to stunning sunrise views of the London skyline as Seabourn Venture glided up the Thames. Wrapped in my plush robe, comfy slippers, and sunglasses (I know, stylish), I savoured a quiet balcony moment and watched as Seabourn Venture skillfully stopped at a floating pontoon in Greenwich. What an incredible end to an incredible few days on board.
I used this time to grab a shower and vacate my suite and head to Seabourn Square for a light breakfast of coffee and a pastry before commencing disembarkation. And sadly, that was the end of my adventure with Seabourn Venture. A water taxi whisked us to the quay for luggage collection as we were waved off by the captain. What an epic end to a luxurious, unforgettable journey through Scotland’s most spectacular Isles and into the heart of London.
