Applications open for Hays Travel’s award-winning apprenticeship programme

13/01/2026

For the first time, brands Miles Morgan Travel, Travel House and Spear Travels are included, as applications open for Hays Travel’s apprenticeship programme.

Throughout its 45-year history, the UK’s largest independent travel agent has been committed to supporting the development of young people.

Last year, a total of 365 apprentices began their careers with Hays Travel at its head office departments in Sunderland and retail branches across the UK.

Now people looking to get into the industry can apply to join the 2026 intake at Hays Travel, Miles Morgan Travel, Travel House and Spear Travels, with the scheme starting on 1 September.

Rachael Allen, Hays Travel's Head of Apprenticeships, said: “Travel offers a rewarding career, and our apprenticeship scheme allows people from across the UK to take their first step into the industry.

“Our apprentices work towards a nationally recognised qualification with the support of our fantastic Learning and Development team – all while getting paid at the same time. The programme is a brilliant way to begin an exciting career path with the Hays Travel group.”

Training is provided in-house, with head office apprentices working towards a Level 2 Customer Service Practitioner Qualification and retail obtaining a Level 3 Travel Consultant Apprenticeship on graduating.

The minimum requirements to apply for a role are Maths and English GCSE at Grade 4 or above, or Scottish NAT 4 or above (or equivalent).

Travel offers a rewarding career

Hays Travel’s apprenticeship programme has an overall ‘good’ rating from Ofsted inspectors and is ‘outstanding’ for ‘behaviour and attitudes’ and ‘personal development’.

Jonathon Woodall-Johnston, Hays Travel's Chief Operating Officer, said: “Having started my own career as an apprentice, I know how valuable this scheme is.

“We were delighted to be recognised as a Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer again in 2025 and I know how hard our teams work to nurture the skills of our newest colleagues.

“Hays Travel is proud of its family values, so applicants can have every confidence they will be fully supported throughout their journey.”

What some of our former apprentices say about the scheme:

Bobby Hudson – Travel Consultant

"When I was at school, I had no idea what I wanted to do when I finished. I wasn't the biggest fan of school, so I knew that I didn't want to go to college. I had seen an apprenticeship at Hays Travel advertised and I have always been passionate about travel since my very first holiday. Initially, I had always had the ambition of becoming a flight attendant, however since starting my apprenticeship, I don't think there is a better suited job for me than being a Travel Consultant."

Millen Jane – Product Assistant

“My apprenticeship is mint! I have always struggled in a classroom environment. However, the smaller class sizes and one-to-one support at Hays Travel have helped me massively. Everybody on my course has felt comfortable enough to contribute and I’ve had a really good support system. I have learnt a lot of life skills, timekeeping, and organisation skills. The atmosphere at head office is great. There are so many different roles to choose from and the support you receive is amazing."

Ella Graham – Marketing Executive

“Since starting my apprenticeship, I’ve had many opportunities to grow professionally and personally. I’ve built key skills like problem-solving, and teamwork, but one that really stands out is public speaking. I hope my journey can show how much you can achieve when you push yourself out of your comfort zone and take opportunities. I am extremely proud of how far I have come and I would love to be able to show others what is possible through an apprenticeship!”
