Claire Rosslee - My Viking Cruises Educational!
Claire from our branch in Exeter St. Thomas was lucky enough to have the chance to experience the exceptional Viking cruise line on a trip back from Tenerife! Here’s what she thought of her time onboard…
WOW - where do I start? Viking is a name we know as a quality product but my word I did not expect this. Stunning, contemporary decor and the most modern of facilities, from an immersive Nordic spa complete with fresh snow chamber, to an on-board infinity pool which is certainly a feeling I won’t forget! From being greeted in sunny Tenerife, to disembarking in not-so-sunny Portsmouth, we were treated like royalty, with staff on board remembering us by name (and our drinks orders!).
I was lucky enough to have a Penthouse Veranda Cabin which had an amazing king size bed, spacious lounge area, and of course, balcony! The bathroom had underfloor heating which gives you the added touch of luxury and the bathrobes and slippers mean you can really feel at home in your cabin, too! Viking have their own brand of toiletries on board which are lovely, and are frequently replaced saving you lots of room in your luggage!
One thing I, as a food lover, absolutely loved about being on board was that all of the restaurants on board are included. You are not expected to fork out to dine in the most fantastic Italian restaurant at sea, nor are you expected to pay any extra at all for a 5 course themed tasting menu with pairing wines included. You can even dine in the private dining area of either of these two restaurants, again at absolutely no extra cost which makes for a phenomenal birthday experience with new friends, or a get together on board.
24 hour room service is also complimentary and the menu is vast so you really are not restricted! I could not fault any single cafe or restaurant on board, and their choice and quality of food was out of this world, from freshly grilled Burger & Lobster for lunch to the amazing 'Viking Sun Brunch'. I can also highly recommend Mamsen's waffles, complete with goat’s cheese, berries and maple syrup! We found the on-board band in the Torshavn bar each evening to be fantastic and we were joined by lots of guests on board each night who enjoyed the variety of music. We were also lucky to be joined by 'Jack Pack' on board, as well as the on-board entertainment team who created an amazing Beatles tribute one night.
The thought of knowing that tips are all taken care of within your cruise fare saves that awkward feeling when you disembark, not knowing how much to tip the crew who have taken such good care of you. A cruise line I would certainly recommend!
