Rachel - My India Fam Trip!
I was lucky enough to get to go on this educational to India’s Golden Triangle (New Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur) as the host for other members of staff. It was here that we’d get to experience four different hotels and some great sights.
Humayun’s Tomb in New Delhi was very impressive. It was built in 1570 and is very significant as it inspired several architectural innovations such as the Taj Mahal. It’s the first garden tomb on the Indian subcontinent and also the first structure to use red sandstone to such a scale! It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site now and has had a lot of restoration work done since 1993, but it’s such a beautiful spectacle to see.
We started off at The Suryaa Hotel, which was a lovely start to the trip. It was clean, comfortable, had nice-sized rooms, and an excellent selection for breakfast. The weather was hot and sunny when we arrived; so it was a very nice welcome to have drinks and bindi upon arrival. The hotel itself is in a great location and it’s easy to walk around on an evening in a safe and busy city centre neighbourhood.
The next hotel we stayed in was the Clarks Shiraz Hotel Agra which is a nice option that has a lovely rooftop terrace with a great selection of food and distant views of the Taj Mahal. It has a beautiful pool area and was close to the city centre should anyone want to go and eat in local restaurants. However, there’s not much to see or do in Agra other than the Taj Mahal and the Agra Fort.
We moved on to the Clarks Amer Hotel Jaipur. My room was of a fantastic standard, very clean and modern, and was one of my favourites throughout the whole tour. There is a very nice coffee and pastry café that’s not included in the breakfast rate but it was amazing. This hotel was in a great location and had nice facilities.
The last hotel, Sheraton Okhla New Delhi was my favourite as it was to an excellent standard. It had very comfortable beds with an opportunity to have a classic room or a very modern alternative. Breakfast was by far the best selection. We were very happy to have spent our final night at this hotel as it was very comfortable.
This was a good location close by the airport; but too far away from many of New Delhi's sites so I would not recommend this as a base.
