The Wave Project

The Wave Project exists to provide opportunities for children and young people who are struggling with their mental health, social deprivation or social isolation to benefit from life changing surf therapy. The organisation offers their services to young people aged 8-18 who have been referred by professional bodies, to help with their mental health when traditional therapies aren’t suitable.

The Wave Project applied for a grant from the Hays Travel Foundation to offer surf therapy to 40 young people on the Isle of Wight. The aim of surf therapy is to help young people to boost their confidence, self-esteem and resilience to help them to better able to cope with the stressed they face in their daily lives.

Not only does surf therapy help mentally, but it also helps to improve physical ability, contributing to the overall health and wellbeing of participants. Participants have also been able to learn that making new friends in a new environment isn’t scary, and it is something that everyone should do!
