Skylight Circus Arts

Skylight Circus Arts has been delivering inclusive, life-changing participation projects since 1990, and support individuals with disabilities, complex needs and those from disadvantaged backgrounds. The organisation believes that circus is a powerful tool for social change as it teachers valuable life skills such as autonomy, communication, adaptability and self-esteem.

Skylight Circus Arts received a grant from the Hays Travel Foundation the Spotlight youth performance troupe which is their flagship group which aims to inspire audiences, peers and help young people move into paid circus tutors. The sessions provide children and young people with the opportunity to engage in advance circus skills training, creative development and teamwork as well as input from visiting artists and experienced circus tutors.

Through the project, 20 young people have been able to engage in circus activities which has helped to increase skills and confidence, whilst also improving wellbeing and resilience. As a result of the sessions, participants have been able to perform at local events which have promoted community engagement.

Skylight Circus Arts stated that ‘The grant has been a transformative catalyst, nurturing young talent and safeguarding the future of circus arts locally. Thank you for believing in our young people!”
