Hearts and Minds
Hearts & Minds aims to improve lives, one smile at a time, by delivering and embedding the professional practice of therapeutic clowning in Scotland’s healthcare provision. The organisation uses the practice of therapeutic clowning to make a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable individuals, touching their hearts and minds with kindness and joy when they need it the most.
Hearts & Minds received funding from the Hays Travel Foundation to fund the Clowndoctors service in Glasgow. With the funding from the Hays Travel Foundation, Hearts & Minds have been able to deliver 289 Clowndoctors visits where the Clowndoctors have been able to break down barriers, encourage communication, connection and social engagement. In addition to encouraging engagement, the Clowndoctors also offer friendship, love and support in a safe environment for children and young people who often experience unpleasant experiences in hospital.
During their visits, the Clowndoctors offer play, anticipation games, musical rhythms and cause-and-effect activities which overall help with the health, wellbeing and progression of children on the wards. The Clowndoctors project has had incredible outcomes for children and young people in Glasgow and has allowed for emotional regulation, increased stimulation and happy memories have been made.
