Creative Kids
Creative Kids is an award winning arts education charity that works in an area of extreme deprivation in Boscombe, Bournemouth. The organisation provides key out of school services to children and young people in the locality who are suffering from symptoms of poverty.
Creative Kids received funding from the Hays Travel Foundation to fund the Unbox Project which offers drawing and talking sessions for children aged six to fourteen who are suffering from trauma or who are on the CAMHS wait list. Drawing and talking therapy is designed to allow individuals to discover and communicate emotions through a non-directed technique, and has ben proven to help children to become more able to process and manage their emotions which leads to more positive behaviour and engagement.
So far, the project has been successful, with children reporting improvements in their mood, happiness, anger control and wellbeing. Participants have reported feeling more ‘cheerful’, able to ‘deal with problems well’ and have been able ‘to make up their own mind about things.’
