Children's Book Project

Children’s Book Project believes that every child deserves access to a world full of words and stories, sparking imagination and curiosity as well as building communication and emotional skills. The organisation gifts new and used books to children growing up with poverty, as they often have very few books of their own.

Children’s Book Project received funding from the Hays Travel Foundation to fund book gifting activity through Pop-Up Bookshops in Birmingham which supports children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The Pop-Up Bookshops are a fun and immersive experience, and mirror a real life bookshop, a place that many of the children have not had the opportunity to visit.

The project has been extremely successful and has promoted a love of reading among students, and has sparked genuine excitement around books, with students engaging in discussions about genres and authors. Through the funding awarded by the Hays Travel Foundation, Children’s Book Project has been able to help 8 schools in Birmingham, donating 7,272 books to circa 3,500 children.
