Our branch recently funded a community event organised in memory of local boy, Riley.
Riley Blaker, whose parents are customers at our branch, passed away at the age of six in 2016 after he lost his battle with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG). This is a malignant brain tumour, primarily diagnosed in children aged 5-9, and is terminal from outset.
Our event took place on Saturday, September 24, and raised a total of just over £1850 for Abbie’s Army - a parent-led charity raising funds for DIPG research and the Lexi May Trust - a Dorset charity, set up to fund days out for children and their families when diagnosed with terminal or life-limiting illness.
Our branch donated a £100 holiday voucher as a raffle prize and contributed towards the cost for the venue hire charge. In addition, we took responsibility to provide those attending the event with a Hays Travel sweets and refreshments stand.
Katie, our branch manager said: “Riley’s mother, Adele, mentioned the event was something she would like to do and had been in talks with the venue to arrange dates. She wanted to give back to the community as they really supported her family when Riley was taken ill. This day certainly did that.”
