Unbelievable as this sounds to me now, I was never that keen on visiting the USA. My new boyfriend was though and I did like him, so off we went to California - San Francisco, Yosemite, Monterrey, Santa Barbara and LA. The wows: the thrill of driving across the Golden Gate Bridge; the Bleakness of Alcatraz; the Baseball on a balmy evening in Santa Barbara. I'm glad to say that the trip and relationship were a success. We started as a couple, morphed into a family with one and then two kids and are now planning our tenth Road Trip. What do I love? Well I love the enthusiasm, the vastness, the friendliness. The service is amazing. The skies are vast. Even the beds are huge. Each State is unique. And the USA is so, so beautiful and so different to home. Here are some of my best memories: cruising the Mississippi on a paddleboat; being shown around Martin Luther King's parsonage by an original member of his congregation; looking back at the Manhattan Skyline from The Staten Island Ferry; meeting Tigger at Disneyland; my son floating down the river on a log in Yosemite National Park; posing under a Joshua Tree; meeting Stephen King's housekeeper as we took a selfie outside the gothic gates of his mansion in Bangor, Maine and swimming with a dolphin at Discovery Cove. See you soon USA!
