Full Itinerary

Day 1: UK – Bergen, Norway
Upon arrival into Bergen Airport you will pick up your rental car and drive north to your first destination, Værlandet. The drive includes a ferry over Norway’s biggest fjord, the Sognefjord. Værlandet is almost as far west as you can get in Norway and is home to just a few hundred permanent residents. You’ll arrive at your hotel, Værlandet Havhotell, where you will stay for the next two nights on a bed & breakfast basis. The rest of your day is at leisure to relax and enjoy your spectacular ocean views.

Day 2: Værlandet, Norway
After breakfast, start your day with a visit to the Norwegian Sea Bird centre where you can learn more about the hundreds of sea birds who call Værlandet home. Then, leave the car behind and pick up your rental bicycle to cycle the 10km of road connecting Værlandet with Bulandet. Biking is the ideal way to experience these islands, as you get closer to nature than you would in a car. Don’t be surprised if you meet some wildlife along the way as the islands are home to wild sheep brought here by farmers Anders and Hilde some years ago. The sheep get to roam freely in safety, while they help maintain the landscape so it doesn’t become overgrown.

Day 3: Værlandet, Norway – Fjærland, Norway
Bid farewell to Værlandet today as you drive east towards the mountains. After a hearty breakfast, you’ll head past small villages, and one of the country’s deepest lakes. When you drive through the Fjærland tunnel, be sure to stop on the other side to see the amazing glacier stretching down towards you. It’s also possible to enjoy the view from the nearby café, where they have panoramic windows. Now, you are truly in glacier country and your destination, the village of Fjærland, is located right on the fjord and boasts incredible views. Check into your hotel, Fjærland Fjordstove, a historic fjord hotel, where you will stay for the next two nights on a bed & breakfast basis.

Day 4: Fjærland, Norway
Enjoy a lovely breakfast this morning before joining your local guide on an adventure to explore the Fjærland area. You have the choice to either go on a relaxed mountain hike, or a kayaking tour on the fjord.
Mountain Hike: You’ll start the hike from the village centre, and follow a gravel road most of the way up Mundal Valley. In the summer, the farmers let their animals graze freely up here and you’ll have a good chance of greeting a cow or a sheep. Your goal for the hike is a small farmer’s cabin, where you can sit outside and enjoy a typical Norwegian matpakke (packed lunch).
Kayaking Tour: Kayaking on the fjord will give you unique views of the mountains and glacier surrounding. As you paddle along you will hear interesting facts and stories about Fjærland.
End the day with a visit to the Norwegian Glacier Museum. Here you can learn more about the history of the glaciers and how they shaped the landscape around you. You’ll also see the work the scientists are doing today to measure the ice and study the environment.

Day 5: Fjærland, Norway – Bergen, Norway
After breakfast, you’ll make your way back to Bergen where your trip started. We recommend starting on the Rv5 which takes you to Lærdal, where you join the E16. This stretch is a National Tourist Route, because it’s one of the country’s most scenic drives. You will also drive through the incredible Lærdal tunnel - the world’s longest road tunnel! As you exit the tunnel you can make a small detour down to the village of Aurlandsvangen. On the way you’ll find the Stegastein viewpoint where you can stop and take in the view of the Sognefjord and the village below.
Arrive into Bergen and check into your hotel, Bergen Børs, where you will stay for one night on a bed & breakfast basis. Your local expert will then meet you at your hotel to walk you around the city centre and tell you the stories of what makes Bergen the city it is today. Being 950 years old, Bergen has enough stories to fill a few hours! You’ll also get an insight from your guide on what life is like in Bergen today, and you can get some tips from a local on the best places to visit on your last evening.

Day 6: Bergen, Norway - UK
Enjoy your final breakfast before saying goodbye to Norway. Travel back and drop your rental car off at Bergen Airport before catching your flight back to the UK, armed with memories of your wonderful trip to treasure.
