Overview

Discover some of Scotland’s best scenery on this picturesque North Coast 500 (NC500) route as well as a day trip to the stunning Isle of Skye. Based in Inverness, perfect for exploring Inverness Castle, Urquhart Castle, and the world-famous Loch Ness, you will embark on 3 Day North Coast Tour, taking in all of the highlights. There is plenty to be discovered along this 516-mile route. Visit small, scenic towns and beautiful beaches including Balnakeil Beach; explore archaeological and historical sites; enjoy breathtaking stunning coastal walkways; and snap a photo at the most north eastern tip of the UK mainland.

And that’s not all! In addition to this iconic journey, you will be taken past Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle before crossing the Skye Bridge to discover the Isle of Skye on a small-group day trip. Full Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Inverness

You will spend your first night in Inverness so take the opportunity to explore this stunning city. Enjoy a walk round the city,soaking up the Scottish culture and hospitality, visit Inverness or Urquhart Castle, and see if you can spot the elusive monster in the world-famous Loch Ness, just 35 minutes’ outside the city.


Day 2: Inverness to Ullapool

This morning you will meet your group and board a top of the range, 16-seat Mercedes mini-coach. On the first day of your three day journey on the picturesque North Coast 500 route, Scotland’s answer to Route 66, you will take in five stops along the way. First, you can enjoy a beautiful walk through the forest, past a gushing waterfall on one of the most spectacular gorges in Britain, Corrieshalloch Gorge. Have your camera at the ready for a great photo opportunity on the famous spectacular winding single track road through the mountains of the Applecross peninsula, Bealach na Ba. Then you can enjoy a short stop in Applecross where you will visit an ancient chapel and famous pub that serves delicious seafood. Journey on to Shieldaig Lodge, one of Scotland’s most picturesque villages, overlooking Loch Gairloch. Here you can enjoy lunch at leisure before continuing onto Gairloch where you can either enjoy a beach walk from Gairloch Harbour to Gairloch Beach or relax on the white sands of the beach and visit a wee coffee shop. You’ll end your day in Ullapool where you can enjoy dinner at leisure and stay overnight.


Day 3: Ullapool to Thurso

Today you will enjoy four stops on route to Thurso. First up is Ardvreck Castle, where you will have enough time for a walk round the castle ruins before heading onto Balnakeil Craft Village. Here you can either go to Durness beach to enjoy some time at leisure taking a stroll to marvel at the stunning views, or visit the craft village made from old world war buildings to enjoy craft shops and a chocolate coffee shop. Smoo Cave is the next stop on today’s journey, a natural sea cave which boasts one of the largest entrances to any sea cave in Britain at 50 ft high. Last but certainly not least, you will travel to Thurso, a major surfing town and the most northernmost town on the UK mainland, where you stay overnight and spend the evening at leisure discovering this delightful little town.


Day 4: Thurso to Inverness

Start the final day of your North Coast 500 tour visiting Dunrobin Castle and Gardens, known for its ‘Scottish Gothic’ Style architecture. Your next stop will take you to the famous John O’Groats where you can look out to the North Sea at the island of Britain’s most northerly point before journeying on to Pulteney Distillery Visitor Centre. Here you will have the chance to sample a fine Scottish whisky and take a look round the visitor centre. Before heading on to Inverness, take in the natural wonders and the stacks at Duncansby Head, the perfect spot to take a photograph of the rugged beauty that Scotland has to offer.


Day 5: Day Trip to Isle of Skye

With a scottish local driver-guide, donning none other than a traditional kilt, you will have a day to discover the wonders of the Isle of Skye. First, pass Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle before crossing the Skye Bridge. You will discover the history of the island from your knowledgeable guide, visit the town of Portree, travel through the Cuillin Mountains, and discover captivating natural sights such as the Old Man of Storr. Stay overnight in Inverness.


Day 6: Flight home
Today you will return home. If your flight time allows, you can discover more of Inverness before heading to the airport to catch your flight home.
