Suggested itinerary
Day 1: UK to Auckland
On arrival into Auckland Airport, you will be transferred privately to Waldorf Tetra Hotel, where you will stay for the next two nights. Spend your first night in Auckland at leisure. Your hotel is near two large parks, Albert Park and Auckland Domain, popular for walking, jogging and relaxing amongst the historical landmarks and beautiful gardens. Perhaps take a walk before feasting on some local dining at the wonderful restaurants, cafes and bars nearby.
Day 2: Auckland
Today you have the day at leisure in stunning Auckland, the largest city in New Zealand. Perhaps visit Kelly Tarlton’s Sea Life Aquarium, home to the world’s largest Sub-Antarctic penguin colony, scale the Sky Tower, standing at 328 meters tall or take a short ferry to Devonport for some iconic, panoramic views of the city skyline and Auckland harbour (at own expense).
Day 3: Auckland to Self-Drive Journey
Check out of your hotel and head to Auckland Airport, where you will pick up your Britz Voyager campervan, your home for the next 10 nights. Start your journey today, stopping at geothermal haven, Rotorua, where you’ll witness thermal pools and hot springs, and can immerse yourself in the Maori culture.
Day 4 – 7: Self Drive Journey (North Island)
Spend the next three days experiencing everything that New Zealand’s North Island has to offer. Stop at Matamata, home to the amazing Hobbiton experience, where you can take a guided tour and completely immerse yourself in the movie set (at own expense). Take a stroll through the wonderful town of Napier, home to street after street of stunning and beautifully-restored Art Deco buildings. Visit Tongariro National Park, the perfect destination for those seeking adventure, fun and an escape into nature. Finally, stop in the capital of New Zealand, Wellington, a city offering nature, great views, museums, and street art – that you can experience in one day.
Day 8: Self Drive Journey (North Island to South Island)
Today, it’s time to leave the North Island and explore the South Island. This morning, head to the Interislander Ferry terminal and enjoy one of the most beautiful ferry journeys in the world and one of New Zealand's most iconic experiences, crossing the Cook Strait Crossing from Wellington to Picton. When you arrive, be sure to try some of the local seafood, as the Marlborough Sounds are famous (in New Zealand) for producing fresh seafood and specialities like the green shell mussel.
Day 9-12: Self Drive Journey (South Island)
The next four days you will spend exploring the South Island. Stop at Nelson, a region renowned for its stunning natural landscapes, diverse geography and rugged mountains.
