Malia is a hugely popular holiday destination for all types of travellers, but particularly for young revellers seeking to experience the party atmosphere the bustling resort is famous for! Located in the north of Crete, there's plenty to do on a holiday to Malia. You can explore the region's fascinating history in the Old Town, and the vibrant bars in the newer, more contemporary areas. With over five kilometres of stunning coastline, there are lots of beautiful sandy beaches within easy reach to enjoy too, which makes it a hit with families of all ages.

If you visit the main beach, Glozanie Beach, you'll be in a prime spot to top up your tan. Temperatures can get up to 25°C in the summer, so sunscreen will definitely be an essential part of your luggage for your Malia holiday! If you fancy a break away from sunbathing, you can get active with the thrilling watersports, including paragliding and water skiing. You can also play a round of golf by the seafront.

Walking around Malia allows you to explore the beautiful scenery at a more relaxed pace. A day trip to the iconic Samaria Gorge National Park is highly recommended, too. Or, why not take a boat excursion around Crete's coastline. Alternatively, you can discover the iconic ancient Minoan Palace where there's lots to see, from the ancient ruins to the royal villa. You can also enjoy a leisurely stroll along Beach Road and visit the bustling shops if you fancy picking up a few traditional souvenirs.

In the evening, tuck into yummy traditional Greek food with a glass of Cretan wine, followed by a sip of raki - the local brandy that has a fruity kick! Not ready to round off your day? Malia really comes alive at night, making summer holidays here hugely popular with the younger crowds. There are over 60 glitzy bars and nightclubs to choose from, attracting international DJs during the peak season - who needs Ibiza! For a more laid-back atmosphere (or just a night off), the local tavernas are the perfect spot for a quiet evening.

Crete's hot summers are one of its main attractions. The island's temperate, Mediterranean climate means mild, rainy winters and hot, dry summers. During the months of July and August, you can expect temperatures to be in the low to mid 30s with little or no rainfall. Temperatures in winter are very mild, with day time highs of 15 ºC to 17ºC. As one of the most southerly points in Europe, Crete is a good choice for sunshine in spring and autumn.
Things to see & do

The beach is the centre of daytime life on a Malia holiday, with water sports galore to enjoy including jet skiing, waterskiing, paragliding and parascending. Play a round of crazy golf on the seafront. Take a boat trip and explore Cretes coastline. Walking is also particularly popular with the breathtaking Samaria Gorge within easy reach on a day trip. Three miles east of the new town, you can explore the ancient Palace of Malia with its Kernos Stone. Best buys include ceramics, handicrafts and leather goods.

As the sun goes down, Malia comes alive with a superb nightlife ranging from glitzy nightclubs to Englishstyle pubs, from familyfriendly venues to karaoke bars. The nightlife in Malia is mainly focussed towards the 1830 crowd but for a quieter night out seek out a peaceful taverna amongst the twisting streets of the old town.
