Discover the natural beauty of South Africa on this 10-day, once-in-a-lifetime luxury tour from Johannesburg to the Cape Winelands, including a 2 night stay on board the famous Blue Train. Starting in Johannesburg, you’ll embark on a half day tour of Soweto and the Apartheid Museum, an insightful tour that reveals the complex history of Soweto with narrative from a knowledgeable tour guide. You’ll then board the Blue Train at Pretoria station for a journey into a timeless world of grace and elegance, where you’ll sit back and enjoy being pampered on South Africa’s ‘Blue Jewel’ as you travel to Cape Town.
Once you arrive in Cape Town, you’ll love the tour of Robben Island, where you’ll board the ferry and have time to explore the historic island where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated. Finally you’ll head to Stellenbosch & Franschhoek in the Cape Winelands, where you’ll board the Franschhoek Wine Tram and leisurely journey through rolling vineyards, stopping in at some of South Africa’s oldest and most distinguished wine estates.

Day 1: UK to Johannesburg
You’ll arrive at Johannesburg International Airport and will be transferred privately to your hotel, 5* 54 on Bath, where you’ll stay for two nights on a bed and breakfast basis. You’ll spend your first night at leisure in Johannesburg, perhaps unwind in the hotel’s sparkling outdoor pool, enjoy champagne, afternoon tea and gourmet dining at Level Four restaurant or explore the surrounding area.
Day 2: Johannesburg
You have an exciting day ahead in Johannesburg. Enjoy a hearty breakfast before being picked up at the hotel for your half day Soweto & Apartheid Museum Tour. Thanks to your experienced and informative tour guide, this tour will immerse you in the history of the anti-apartheid struggle with visits to the Apartheid Museum and the Hector Pieterson Memorial & Museum, before giving you the chance to see Nelson and Winnie Mandela’s former home.
Day 3: Johannesburg
After breakfast this morning, you will be privately transferred from your hotel to Pretoria train station where you’ll board the stunning Blue Train for 2 night all-inclusive journey to Cape Town. After registering and checking in at the Blue Train station lounge, you’ll enjoy pre-departure snacks and drinks before departing at 2pm. You’ll love watching the view change through your panoramic window, from open farmlands to rugged mountains, as you make your way to Cape Town. High tea is served at 4pm and dinner is served in 2 sittings, between 6.30-8pm or 8.15-10pm.
Day 4: Johannesburg to Cape Town
Today is day 2 on the Blue Train. Breakfast is served 6-9am and you will arrive at Kimberley at 9.30am for a thrilling, off-train excursion – the Kimberley Open Mine Museum for a tour of the mine. The attraction is named the ‘Big Hole’ and gives visitors the chance to go underground in a recreation of a mine shaft and learn about the history of diamond mining, see historic memorabilia and buy diamonds slightly cheaper than usual. Lunch, High Tea and Dinner are all served on board the Blue Train while you continue your journey past views of mining landscapes and of course Table Mountain, on your way to Cape Town.
Day 5: Cape Town
This morning is your last morning on board the Blue Train. Enjoy your last breakfast between 6.30-10.30am, and you’ll arrive into at Cape Town at midday. You’ll be picked up at Cape Town Station by private transfer and taken to your hotel, 5* Lawhill Luxury Apartments, where you’ll stay for three nights. Tonight is at leisure to enjoy Cape Town. The hotel overlooks Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront marina and is the ideal base to explore the city, perhaps visit the Waterfront’s shopping malls or enjoy a meal or a drink at one of the many bars and restaurants.
Day 6: Cape Town
Today you’ll take part in the Robben Island Tour. After making your own way to the V&A Waterfront, you’ll take the ferry to Robben Island and will have time to explore the historic island where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated. You’ll meet your experienced Tour Guide who is hugely knowledgeable about the Island’s multi-layered 500-year-old history and able to answer any questions you may have. The tour ends with a viewing of Nelson Mandela’s cell.
Day 7: Cape Town
You have a free day to explore Cape Town at your own pace. You may want to spend time at the adjoining award-winning, luxury spa at the One&Only Hotel. If you are looking to fill your day with activities, the concierge service can you help to book a variety of day tours, including Table Mountain cable car and The Hermanus Whale Route, organise car hire or children’s activities including the Aquarium.
Day 8: Cape Town to Stellenbosch
Today you’ll be privately transferred from Cape Town to your Stellenbosch hotel, 5* Cloud Estate, where you’ll stay for two nights. Situated on one of the world’s most beautiful mountain passes, this boutique hotel is surrounded by incredible views offering its own range of wines under its own label – ideal for wine lovers. Spend tonight at leisure, exploring the local area and of course sampling some of the hotel’s wine.
Day 9: Stellenbosch & Franschhoek
This morning you’ll travel to Franschhoek and partake in the Franschhoek Wine Tram experience. Hop on board and experience a unique and leisurely journey through rolling vineyards in an open-side tram, stopping in at some of South Africa’s oldest and most distinguished wine estates. This is perfect for the foodie or wine connoisseur, appreciating delicious wines while you enjoy unrivalled views of the Franschhoek Valley and vineyards.
Day 10: Stellenbosch to UK
Today you’ll have at leisure before heading home. After checking out of your room, spend your final few hours buying final souvenirs and relaxing in the hotel. You’ll then be picked up and privately transferred to Cape Town International Airport for your flight back to the UK.
