Day 1 Tralee

Arrive at your hotel - following a two-hour transfer from Cork - and settle in. Join your host for a welcome drink before dinner. D

Day 2 Ring of Kerry coach tour

Streams, stone bridges and plenty of flora and fauna are all waiting to be seen during your panoramic drive along the Ring of Kerry, a looping road following the contours of Kerry’s Iveragh Peninsula. The drive will take approximately three and a half hours with additional time for lunch at your own expense.

From Coomakesta Pass you will enjoy views of Derrynane Bay and Abbey Island while a stop at Sneem Village might provide an opportunity to take a stroll, purchase a trinket or enjoy a pint of Guinness in this colourful village. Make your way over the famous Molls Gap to Ladies View, with its panoramic views across the lakes of Killarney. B, D

Day 3 At leisure

Today is yours to enjoy however you wish. Perhaps visit the Kerry County Museum, located in Tralee, or take a trip to Killarney National Park, offering some excellent hiking opportunities. B, D

Day 4 Lough Leane cruise, Muckross House visit and free time in Killarney

Begin your day with a cruise on Lough Leane. The name belonging to this picturesque body of water means ‘Lake of Learning’, owing to the monastery built on Innisfallen, one of the lake’s islands. During your cruise you will also pass Ross Island, upon which stands a 15th-century castle with the same name. Lough Leane is fringed by thickly wooded slopes and punctuated by curious uninhabited islands.

Having disembarked from the boat, you will have some free time in Killarney to purchase lunch. The town is home to St Mary’s Cathedral, completed in the mid-19th century and certainly worthy of a visit. Leaving Killarney behind, you will then make the short journey to Muckross House, an estate measuring 13,000 acres and dating back to the 17th century. The house by which you will be met was completed in 1843 and features furniture and artefacts dating from the 19th century. B, L, D

Day 5 Dingle Peninsula and Dingle Distillery

Journey out along Dingle peninsula, once described by National Geographic as ‘the most beautiful place on earth’. Carpeting the peninsula are green fields which roll down towards dramatic rock formations that are bashed and beaten by the constant Atlantic waves. Following the Slea Head route brings you along the peninsula to Ventry a charming village with a beautiful beach before winding onwards to Dunbeg Fort and the Fahan group of Clocháns or Beehive huts. On a clear day you can see the island of Skellig Michael as a silhouette on the southern horizon.

The drive continues with a sheer cliff on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other. During your drive, you will stop for a tour of Dingle Distillery, an artisanal distillery that always puts quality before quantity and has won a multitude of awards for their whiskey, gin and vodka as a result. During your tour of the whiskey distillery, your guide will explain the site’s history - started by the three founders of Porterhouse Brewing Company - and showcase the unique equipment used to bring out the spirit’s flavour.

At the end of the tour, you will have the opportunity to taste a dram of whiskey to experience the excellence first-hand. B, D

Day 6 At leisure

Today provides an opportunity to take a breath, look over the photos taken of south-west Ireland’s pretty scenery and perhaps explore County Kerry a little more. You can also join a walk from Tralee itself. B, D

Day 7 Skellig Islands tour and free time in Portmagee

Take to the water and seek out the Skellig Islands, the larger of which - Great Skellig - was a centre of monastic learning and prayer for over 500 years.

During your boat tour around Great Skellig, you will gaze up at this towering sea crag that was recognised by UNESCO for its outstanding national value. Hear its history and keep your camera to hand before returning to dry land. Spend time in Portmagee, the main street of which is filled with colourful houses overlooked by rolling hills. B, D

Day 8 Farewell

Check out of your hotel and make your way home. B
