Day 1 UK-Bali

After taking your VIP door-to-door travel service to the airport, fly overnight to Bali, Indonesia.


Day 2 Ubud, Bali

Arrive in Bali today, and transfer to Ubud (23 miles, 90 minutes). Ubud is considered the cultural centre of Bali, with its temples, ceremonies, art galleries, cuisine and local handicrafts.

Stay three nights at the 4-star Alaya Resort Ubud (4Q+). The hotel has a central location, and offers an outdoor swimming pool, spa and a fitness centre. A complimentary cold plate will be provided due to late arrive. Enjoy a welcome drink this evening.


Day 3 Ubud

Join an orientation walking tour of Ubud this morning. See the Ubud traditional art market, the historic Ubud Palace, and visit the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, a Hindu temple complex home to Balinese long-tailed macaques. The rest of the day is free to spend at leisure, or you can join an optional Balinese cooking experience. B


Day 4 Ubud

Enjoy a full day at leisure in Ubud, perhaps exploring independently, or choosing to enjoy the hotel’s facilities. Alternatively, an optional tour visits Bali’s rural heartland. B


Day 5 Ubud-Sidemen

Journey to Sidemen, a traditional village located in the foothills of Bali’s largest volcano, Mount Agung (20 miles, one hour).

On arrival, join a short walk through the Sidemen countryside, passing rice terraces to reach the small village. Here you’ll visit a Balinese home to see local women creating weaving fabric using the traditional ikat method. Ikat is a unique dying technique used to create patterns in the fabric, and Sidemen is considered one of the best producers of ikat fabric in the world. Continue through the countryside and forest, stopping for a picnic lunch. Visit Besakih Temple, the largest and holiest Hindu temple in Bali.

Stay overnight at the 4-star Wapa Di Ume Sidemen (4Q). This boutique resort has an outdoor swimming pool, gardens, and a spa, and boasts impressive views of the surrounding mountains and rice paddies. B, L


Day 6 Sidemen-Labuan Bajo, Flores Island

Transfer to the airport (33 miles, two hours), then fly to to Labuan Bajo on Flores Island (one hour). Join a short orientation of downtown Labuan Bajo and have lunch at a local restaurant, before continuing to your hotel.

Stay two nights at the 5-star AYANA Komodo Resort (4Q+). The stylish hotel has a beachfront location, two swimming pools, a jetty and a yoga deck. Spend the afternoon at leisure. B, L, D


Day 7 Komodo National Park

Join a full day exploration of the islands of Rinca, Sebayur and Penga.

Transfer to the harbour to board your vessel, heading first to Rinca Island, part of the Komodo National Park and home to the Komodo dragon – the world’s largest lizard. These impressive lizards can weigh up to 300 pounds, and have a powerful bite and venom glands loaded with deadly toxins. Visits to the island are strictly controlled and you’ll be required to follow a number of rules during your visit. Walk past dragon nests and observe the natural behaviour of these incredible creatures. Continue to Sebayur and Penga islands, which are renowned for their beauty above and below the water.

Take time to relax or explore independently before cruising back to Labuan Bajo. B, L


Day 8 Labuan Bajo-Mount Bromo, Java

Spend the morning at leisure, then transfer to the airport and fly to Surabaya (90 minutes) in East Java.

Continue by road to Mount Bromo (78 miles, three hours), where you’ll stay for two nights at the 3-star Jiwa Jawa Resort Bromo (3Q). The hotel is committed to sustainability, and boasts panoramic views of Mount Tengger, with cabin-style accommodation. Located in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, Mount Bromo is an active volcano, standing at 7,641 feet above sea level. B, L, D


Day 9 Mount Bromo

Spend the day touring East Java.

The villages and tribes inhabiting the foothills of Mount Bromo have a unique culture and traditions which have stood the test of time. Meet the Tengger community, an indigenous ethnic group believed to be the descendants of the of the Hindu-Buddhist Majapahit empire. The community still adheres to ancient ways of Javanese culture and Hindu Dharma, and have been largely isolated from external influences. Experience the ancient traditions, distinctive cuisine, spectacular landscapes and warm welcomes of the Tengger people. B, L, D


Day 10 Mount Bromo-Yogyakarta

Rise early this morning to watch the sunrise over Bromo, Batok and Sereru volcanoes, travelling by 4x4 to a popular viewing platform across from the smouldering Tengger Massi volcanic complex. Cross to the foot of Mount Bromo and climb the steps to the crater to peer inside the rumbling volcano.

After lunch at the hotel, transfer to the train station for a scenic journey to Yogyakarta (five hours) with dinner included on board. Transfer to the 5-star Phoenix Hotel Yogyakarta - MGallery Collection (4Q+) late this evening for a three night stay. Set in a colonial building from 1918, the elegant hotel features an outdoor swimming pool and a fitness centre. B, L, D


Day 11 Yogyakarta

Known as the cultural capital of Java, Yogyakarta is the only province in Indonesia still ruled by a sultan. The city, of the same name, is an important centre for fine arts including ballet, batik textiles and silversmithing, and the city has a thriving food scene. Join a half day culinary tour through the city. Begin with breakfast at the traditional market of Beringharjo, then drive into the countryside to visit the Garuda factory, specialising in the traditional production of cassava noodles for lunch. Enjoy time at leisure this afternoon.

After dinner at a local restaurant, take an evening tour of the city’s street food stalls. Soak up the atmosphere of the city nightlife, and perhaps taste traditional dishes such as nasi campur or bakmi. B, L, D


Day 12 Yogyakarta

Embark on a tour of the world’s largest Buddhist temple, Borobudur.

Dating from 8th and 9th centuries, the UNESCO-listed monument’s style was influenced by Indian Gupta and post-Gupta art. Borobudur was buried under volcanic ash and overgrown with vegetation from the 11th century until it was discovered in 1814 by English lieutenant governor Thomas Stamford Raffles. The site comprises two million square feet of volcanic stone across three tiers. Climb to the top to admire the views, and learn about the history of Buddhism in Indonesia.

Continue to the nearby temples of Pawon and Mendut before stopping for lunch at a local restaurant. Next, explore Indonesia’s largest Hindu site, UNESCO-listed Prambanan. This complex of 224 ornate temples dates from the 9th century, and feature scenes from the Ramayana epic carved into the walls. Explore the three revered temples of Candi Shiva Mahadeva, Candi Brahma and Candi Vishnu, and a selection of neighbouring shrines. B, L, D


Day 13 Yogyakarta-Nusa Dua

Join a sightseeing tour of Yogyakarta this morning. Visit the Kraton, a grand complex containing palaces, pools and waterways, with over 25,000 inhabitants, its own market and craft industries. Continue to Kota Gede, the first capital of the Mataram Kingdom, which today is the hub of the city’s silver industry. After lunch, transfer to the airport and fly to Bali (90 minutes).

Continue by road to Nusa Dua (eight miles, 20 minutes). Stay two nights at the 5-star The Laguna Resort and Spa (5Q). The hotel is located on a pristine white sand beach and has lagoon-style pools, tropical gardens and selection of dining options. B, L, D


Day 14 Nusa Dua

Join a short orientation tour of Nusa Dua this morning, then spend the remainder of the day at leisure, making the most of the hotel’s facilities.

Alternatively, choose from optional excursions cruising off the coast of Sanur, or exploring Uluwatu Temple. Enjoy a farewell dinner this evening. B, D


Day 15 Nusa Dua-UK

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your return overnight flight to the UK. B
