Day 1: Arrive Lima
Upon arrival into Lima Airport you will be picked up and transferred to your hotel in Lima. The Peruvian capital is a modern metropolis full of history, which is currently undergoing an exciting process of cultural and economic changes. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure to explore.
Overnight: Arawi Express (or similar)
Day 2: Lima
After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel for an exciting food tour through Lima. The first stop is the Surquillo Market, probably the best place to taste Peruvian products from the coast, mountains, and jungle. Then, you will be transferred to the old tavern El Bolivariano, to try different types of pisco and traditional appetisers. Enjoy a pisco sour, while you watch the preparation of ceviche by the local chef. You will also visit the residential streets of Miraflores and the upmarket district of San Isidro, then be transferred to the Historic Centre of Lima, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The colonial buildings that surround the Main Square and the Cathedral stand out impressively. Afterwards, visit the Santo Domingo Convent, a 16th century building with an imposing bell tower and a high altar, then return to your hotel.
Overnight: Arawi Express (or similar)
Day 3: Lima – Cusco
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel, then transfer to Lima Airport for your flight to the city of Cusco. On arrival in Cusco, a representative will welcome you and accompany you to your hotel. You then have the afternoon free to explore this Imperial City.
Overnight: Casa Andina Catedral (or similar)
Day 4: Cusco
Today, you will stroll through one of the most emblematic neighbourhoods of Cusco: San Blas. Famous for being home to the most prestigious artisan workshops in the city, initially inhabited by the Inca nobility. Located a short distance from the Main Square, the streets of San Blas are full of imposing stone buildings which remain up to this day with the unmistakable rigour that characterises the Inca walls. Finish the tour in the market of San Pedro, which presents a vast display of thousands of products from different areas of Cusco.
After your city tour you will have some free time before the afternoon activity, where you will immerse yourself in the world of cacao, coffee, and pisco. Start the tour in Chocomuseo to learn about the cacao fruit and its production process. Then, visit the Coffee Museum where you will learn about the different types of grains in Peru and why they have gained worldwide acclaim. Finally, visit the Pisco Museum for a tasting experience and to find out about the benefits of Peru’s national drink. After, return to your hotel.
Overnight: Casa Andina Catedral (or similar)
Day 5: Cusco – Sacred Valley
After breakfast, a transport service will pick you up at your hotel in the morning to take you to the town of Chinchero. This traditional urban centre is unique because of its privileged view of the Sacred Valley landscape, but also because its inhabitants preserve the traditions and knowledge inherited from the Incas, which reflects in their clothing and crafts. In addition to their cultural legacy, in Chinchero you can visit the agricultural platforms and its beautiful church of the 17th century, built on an ancient Inca palace and considered one of the first Catholic buildings in Peru. Continue your journey through the Sacred Valley to the Living Museum of Yucay. This museum is in fact a centre of interpretation of the Andean traditions, with demonstrations of millenary Inca techniques used in the production of textiles, ceramics, and silverware. You can also get up close to, and even feed, the alpacas, llamas, and sheep that live here. After, enjoy a delicious lunch in Ollantaytambo, before a walking tour through the town.
Overnight: Hacienda del Valle (or similar)
Day 6: Sacred Valley – Machu Picchu – Cusco
Start the day with breakfast at the hotel to fuel up for an exciting day ahead, as today you travel to Machu Picchu. First, you’ll be transferred to the Ollanta train station to take a train to Aguas Calientes. Enjoy the views from the train as you travel through the Peruvian countryside. From Aguas Calientes, you will take a 25-minute bus ride to arrive at Machu Picchu, the 'lost city of the Incas'. It is believed that the archaeological site was built around the year 1450 by Inca Pachacútec as his holiday residence. During the guided tour, learn about the origins of this impressive citadel and its most outstanding monuments, such as the main square, the royal rooms, the temple of the three windows, the circular towers, the sacred clock, and the cemeteries. At the end of the tour, return to Aguas Calientes for a delicious lunch at the award-winning Sumaq hotel. Afterwards, board the train back to the Ollanta station. From there, a transfer will take you to your hotel in Cusco.
Overnight: Casa Andina Catedral (or similar)
