Ovacik Holidays

Overview

Tucked in the beautiful mountains between Olu Deniz and Fethiye, the little village of Ovacik is the perfect rural retreat. There are just a smattering of shops and restaurants here, but the lively resort of Hisaronu with its markets, eateries and bars is located within striking distance. Most hotels in Ovacik are charming guesthouses that offer a friendly welcome and bed and breakfast. The main road that threads through the resort leads to Fethiye in one direction and Olu Deniz in the other. With its winding bazaar, pretty harbour and ancient ruins, Fethiye makes for a great day out. Olu Deniz, on the other hand, is home to the most photographed beach in Turkey – perfect if you like to be beside the seaside. Both of these places can be reached within around 20 minutes on the dolmus, the cheap and efficient local bus service that frequently passes through the village. If you’re looking for a peaceful base from which to enjoy all the Turquoise Coast has to offer, holidays to Ovacik could be just right for you.

Things To Do

Many Ovacik holidays are about simply relaxing and enjoying the beautiful scenery, but there are a lot of interesting things to do in this part of Turkey. For many, Ovacik is the starting point of the Lycian Way, a scenic 500km trek along the coast from Fethiye to Antalya. Even if youre not up for the full trek, there are some stunning hikes in the vicinity. Hop on the dolmus and head to Fethiye for shopping in the bazaar and fascinating sightseeing, or head to Olu Deniz and look out for turtles in the breathtaking Blue Lagoon. Theres an array of watersports at Olu Deniz, as well as plenty of boat trips to surrounding areas. Also nearby is the abandoned village of Kayakoy, which can be toured on foot or by camel. Daredevils should book in for a paragliding trip from the peak of Mount Babadag. Those who arent feeling quite so brave can enjoy the graceful sight of the gutsy ones gliding down on to Olu Deniz Beach. Whether your idea of the perfect holiday is active or relaxing, theres something to suit you in Ovacik and the surrounding areas.

Ovacik holidays arent really known for their nightlife which is precisely why fans of the place love it so much. There are a few restaurants along the main road through the resort, but thats about it. Many Ovacik hotels lay on their own entertainment, including karaoke, belly dancing and barbecue nights, so its always worth checking the details of individual accommodation. If youre looking for late night bars, neon lights and discos, youll find plenty in the neighbouring mountain resort of Hisaronu, approximately 1km from Ovacik and easy to reach on foot, by dolmus or taxi.

Food & Drink

There are just a few restaurants in Ovacik. Most of these serve up fresh, local cuisine and have outdoor terraces with mountain views. If youre looking for a wider choice of food, head into bustling Hisaronu, where youll find everything from fast food and full English brekkies, to Indian, Italian and Chinese eats.
