Day 3 - Singapore
Singapore is one of Asia’s most electric cities with astounding skyscrapers, a multicultural population, historic architecture, stunning gardens and vibrant way of life. We’ll get to know it better on a tour, beginning with phenomenal panoramic views of the city from Singapore’s most iconic building - Marina Bay Sands. We’ll continue on through the Civic District to Merlion Park - dominated by its iconic fountain, a mythical creature with the head of a lion and body of a fish. Then we’ll explore Thian Hock Temple, a grand monument belonging to the Chinese sea goddess Mazu; we’ll experience the beautiful National Orchid Garden; and make a stop in Little India - brimming with the unique scent mixture of joss sticks, jasmine and spices.
Day 4 - Singapore
Explore Singapore at leisure today. Enjoy more time in the bustling city centre, perhaps at the National Museum of Singapore. If you fancy spending the day at a slower pace, visit the beautiful Gardens by the Bay, a nature park spanning 250 acres in the central region of the city, home to over 1.5 million plants and flowers, with lots of fabulous photo opportunities.
Day 5 - Malacca
We transfer to Malaysia’s third-smallest state, Malacca, rich in cultural heritage following the colonial rule of the Portuguese, Dutch and English. We sit back and relax on a boat cruise along the stunning Malacca River, a modern waterway providing great views of the city and its flourishing gardens, from a different perspective.
Day 6 - Malacca - Kuala Lumpur
We get to know Malacca City in more depth today on a tour. We’ll head to the base of Bukit Cina for a view of the Sultan’s well. We’ll pass the Portuguese fortress of Porta de Santiago, St Paul’s Church, and the ‘Red Square’ of Dutch administrative buildings. Baba Nyonya Heritage Museum is next, dedicated to the local history of the Chinese Malay people. Finally, we visit the Cheng Hoon Teng Temple, Malaysia’s oldest Chinese temple, located along famous Jonker Street, a vibrant area, which became a thriving business street during the 17th century. This afternoon we drive to Kuala Lumpur.
Day 7 - Kuala Lumpur
We start with an exciting tour of Kuala Lumpur, the vibrant capital of Malaysia with its modern skyline. We make a photo stop at the iconic Petronas Twin Towers reaching for the sky at 451.9 metres tall. There are many other highlights that Kuala Lumpur has to offer too, including the fascinating Chinatown district and modern Parliament House. We’ll stop at the War Memorial, New King’s Palace - with 22 distinctive domes - and Federal Court. We drive past the Masjid Negara, Malaysia’s national mosque set among 13 acres of landscaped gardens. The rest of the day is free.
Day 8 - Cameron Highlands
We leave for the lush green Cameron Highlands in Pahang, where 19th-century English colonial officers found cool sanctuary from the humidity of the lowlands. Here you’ll find quaint villages, tea plantations and lovely colonial architecture. We visit the BOH Tea Plantation where slopes are filled with unending tea plants. We discover the plantation’s history, founded in 1855, and learn about the harvesting and production process. Spend time relaxing in the café with breathtaking panoramic views whilst you sip a delicious cup of BOH tea. We’ll then visit a strawberry farm for a guided tour, where you’ll learn all about the cultivation process – including how the fruit thrives in this cool climate. Finally, we’ll head for Kea Farm Market.
Day 9 - Taiping - Penang
We journey from the scenic Cameron Highlands to Taiping, Perak’s state capital city, where many historical buildings and heritage landmarks hark back to the colonial era. At the British Commonwealth War Memorial, the tranquillity of the stunning Lake Gardens is perfect as you stroll around the enchanting lakes, pretty ponds and flourishing array of tropical plants. We continue to Bukit Merah, for a journey by boat to its Orang-Utan Island at Semanggol, an Orang-Utan rehabilitation and educational centre located on a jungle island of 4,000 hectares, allowing this endangered species to roam freely. Our knowledgeable guide will tell us all about them, as we view the gorgeous baby Orangutans in the quarantine area. Then, we walk through a 200-metre viewing tunnel to observe these primates in their natural habitat. After this wonderful experience, we continue on to Penang.
Day 10 - Penang
Known as the Pearl of the Orient, we begin our exploration of cosmopolitan Penang, known for soft sandy beaches and as the food capital of Malaysia. We’ll discover the popular seafront and water villages of Chinese clan houses. And a stroll along the ‘Street of Harmony’, paves the way to the Goddess of Mercy Temple, with dragon-entwined pillars intricately carved from green stone. We’ll also visit the Penang State Museum and Gallery and the incredible gold-plated Reclining Buddha Temple, sitting blissfully within a serene Thai temple.
Day 11 - Penang
A day at leisure to explore more of Penang, or simply relax on the beach. Perhaps enjoy lunch at one of the beachfront restaurants, accompanied by the sea’s hypnotising soundtrack.
Day 12 - Penang - In flight
We transfer to the airport for your overnight return flight to the UK.
