Working from home - Sophie Wynne
I got to learn about Hays Travel through my mum, she became a homeworker almost five years ago now as she needed the work flexibility to take care of my grandma. At the time I was working in an office as a Junior Content Writer, but I loved holidays and the planning side and I knew it was something I had to look into. I spoke to the recruitment team but I needed to get my experience first. I didn't let this knock me back, I decided to apply for another travel agency and work in the branch to gain some experience. I loved my time there and throughout the year I worked there I was successful, and I gained a lot of experience and I felt this was where I belong. However, I became tired of the commute, working nearly every weekend and being limited to suppliers.
After I had gained enough experience I decided working in the branch definitely wasn't for me anymore. It was a leap of faith but I saw it worked for my mum and so many more people, so I thought what have I to lose? In a matter of weeks I was on my way to Sunderland where I knew as soon as I was in head office for training that I was in the right place. I met John Hays, Amy Brooke and so many more people - and was raring to get home to begin working.
Working from home for Hays has been the best decision I ever made. I love working on the live chat and being able to access so many major UK operators. I love how I'm able to go out walking between my shifts and how much more time I spend with my family now. In December last year, I fancied a new challenge. An employed homeworker role became available with Hays and I decided to apply for it. I was over the moon when I found out I was offered the job. The role is exactly the same as what I was doing self-employed but I feel I have more structure in my days now with working shift patterns.
At Hays Travel we are one big family. We have an amazing support team like no other and I have made so many friends. I felt I would be lonely working on my own, but I have never felt that due to the amount of support we get. I'm looking forward to all of the opportunities available this year such as the educationals, road shows & our annual events!
