Hays Travel staff explore Saga’s Spirit of Discovery!
From Head office to Homeworking, a number of our staff recently headed down to Dover to enjoy a few nights on the brand new Saga Spirit of Discovery. Saga promises that you’ll find ‘all the design cues, cuisine and levels of service you’d expect in the world’s finest boutique hotels’. Will it live up to that? Here’s what our staff thought…

The Spirit of Discovery was a beautiful ship. This was my first cruising experience and it was an all-round positive experience. The facilities in the cabin were brilliant and it had a modern look to it. One of my favourite parts of the cabin (apart from the balcony) was the bathroom. It was absolutely stunning and fitted Saga's boutique cruising perfectly. Finally… the food! My favourite part about any trip or holiday is sampling all the food that they have to offer and the Spirit of Discovery seriously didn't disappoint. I visited two different restaurants while on board, these were 'The Grill' and 'Britannia Lounge'. Both of them were AMAZING!

Wow… from the moment we stepped on board I fell in love with this ship. Our cabin was like a 5 star hotel room on water. It was very luxurious and the attention to detail was top class. I especially loved the toiletries and luxurious bathrobes. Being able to sit outside on our balcony looking out to sea just made it extra special. The quality of food and drink was incredible. Being a vegetarian I had no trouble in finding lots of options, I was spoilt for choice. I really enjoyed using the hot tub around the lovely pool area whilst sipping on a cocktail or two. Plus, the entertainment was just FABULOUS.

From checking in at Dover - everything was made so easy, a great waiting area, well organised, with super facilities whilst you wait to board. The first thing to see on stepping aboard was the Living Room (the atrium of the ship). Decorated in luxury boutique style, and yet felt very homely at the same time. The Lido deck with the main outdoor pool was almost like art deco traditional style - very stylish and gave it a traditional look - it was certainly the focal point for many - and the sail away party was amazing. The Spirit of Discovery is a fantastic new ship, and even though I loved the Sapphire, this is definitely a game changer and offers so much more than ever before to the over 50's.

My experience on board Spirit of Discovery was excellent! I was amazed at how much the ship actually looked like the artist impressions. It was so sleek and modern and felt really big considering it only holds 999 passengers. The food on board was lovely and I love the idea of an all-inclusive ship because it means you don't have to worry about booking any extra packages since everything is included for you. Our room was very spacious with a very modern feel to it, I would definitely recommend saga to people now as going on the ship has totally changed my perspective of them
Sounds like our staff really loved the new ship! Thank you to Saga for inviting them all!
