Aaron Tanner - My Apprenticeship story
Hi, I'm Aaron and I began my apprenticeship with Hays Travel in August 2017 as an Apprentice Travel Consultant. I have since completed my apprenticeship and now work as a Travel Consultant in the Romsey branch. This is my apprenticeship story…
After completing my week's work experience placement at the Romsey branch whilst in Secondary School in June 2016, I really enjoyed the experience and the work involved. Therefore, I was encouraged to apply for the Apprenticeship programme in January 2017, and this is where my apprenticeship journey began.
I opted for the apprenticeship programme once I finished Secondary School. I liked the fact you could earn whilst you learn, whilst also getting a qualification at the end of the programme. I decided to choose Hays Travel for my apprenticeship because I was aware of an in depth training programme they offered apprentices, I knew this would help progress me and become more confident within the industry that I had a passion for.
There are so many things that I love working at Hays Travel as an apprentice. I love how the team and managers support and help develop you as a person along the apprenticeship programme. Within Hays Travel you can participate in wider events such as supplier evenings, educationals, ship visits, charity events and the famous Christmas and Garden parties, which helps broaden my knowledge with suppliers and other experienced members of the Hays Family.
Throughout my apprenticeship I have had many highlights, a few of them were achieving Apprentice of the Year for South in the Year of 2018 and also Branch of the Year for South in 2019, these were presented at our annual Christmas Party. I was also lucky enough to attend my first educational trip where I went to India, this trip was amazing from the business class flights to experiencing sun rise at the Taj Mahal. This educational trip has increased my product knowledge for India and also helping me recommend the best hotels for my customers. I have also attended the yearly high flyers event, where you get to meet other achievers and enjoy an evening with dinner and dance.
Overall the apprenticeship programme has given me a confidence boost as I was the quiet member of the team and now I am confident individual with great product knowledge. The programme has also taught me of how to provide first class service to my customers and I love receiving their feedback daily.
Now that I have completed my apprenticeship at Hays Travel, I am going to be taking part on the next training programme of Buddy a Colleague. This brand new training programme will help me develop my leadership within the team and it will help me become one step closer to the role of an Assistant Manager.
I am so thankful of the support and training that Hays Travel have offered me throughout my apprenticeship. I can't recommend the Hays Travel Apprenticeship programme enough, it has been an experience that I won't forget!
