Full itinerary 

Day 1: Colombo
Upon arrival into Colombo Airport you will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel, with a brief orientation tour of the city en route. After check-in you may wish to explore more of Colombo on your own. Stroll to Pettah, Colombo’s main market and be dazzled by the variety of gems on offer; sample some of the city’s fine fare; or perhaps visit one of the city’s shopping malls and department stores that offer brand name clothing at highly discounted prices.

Day 2: Dambulla & Habarana
After breakfast, you will check out of the hotel and be driven to Habarana – the gateway to many of the region’s top attractions. En route you will visit Dambulla Cave Temple. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is said to be the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka, encompassing numerous caves filled with a collection of religious statues and colourful murals.

Day 3: Sigiriya
Today you will be escorted to Sigiriya Rock Fortress – one of the most dramatic and beautiful historical locations in the world, which stands at nearly 200m high. Climb the stairs to the top and walk through the mouth of an enormous carved lion to reach an ancient palace that dates back over 1,500 years. From the top you can also enjoy impressive 360-degree views of the surrounding jungle. In the afternoon you will enjoy a jeep safari at Minneriya National Park. On top of being a feeding ground for many elephants, this park is also home to numerous other rare and exotic species.

Day 4: Polonnaruwa
Today’s sightseeing will take you to Polonnaruwa. The city is comprised of two distinct parts: the New Town area and the royal ancient city of the Kingdom of Polonnaruwa – the second oldest of Sri Lanka’s ancient kingdoms. This rich archaeological treasure trove contains countless fascinating ruins all conveniently grouped into one compact and easily accessible tourist site.

Day 5: Kandy 
En route to the Royal City of Kandy, you will enjoy a short visit to a spice garden in Matale. Thereafter, continue to Kandy and check into your hotel. After check-in, you’ll enjoy a guided city tour, followed by a cultural show in the early evening. The cultural show is a unique and vibrant display of traditional Sri Lankan dances, accompanied by ceremonial drums. After, you can return to your hotel or enjoy dinner in the city.

Day 6: Kandy 
In the morning after breakfast proceed on a guided tour to the Royal Botanical Gardens. Get lost among the rows of beautiful flora and fauna, and enjoy the on-site café and restaurant. Afterwards, explore the historical Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic of the tooth of Buddha holds the governance of the country.

Day 7: Nuwara Eliya 
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast then check out of the hotel. Today you will be driven to Nuwara Eliya, a land of tea-laden hillsides, stirring mountains, and clear hill-country air. This is wonderful walking country and a chance to experience Sri Lankan scenery at its finest. Once you have checked into your hotel the rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 8: Horton Plains National Park
A packed breakfast will be prepared for you today as there’s an early start to enjoy a trek in Horton Plains National Park. The Horton Plains National Park is a beautiful Sri Lankan highland plateau, consisting of cloud forests and montane grasslands, set at an elevation of 2,100 to 2,300 metres. Enjoy incredible scenery unlike anywhere else at ‘World’s End’, with a sheer drop of about 4,000ft to the plantation below. After the hike you will visit a tea factory to understand the process behind making one of the world’s most popular drinks. During picking season there may also be an opportunity for you to have a go at picking tea leaves. On the way back to the hotel you will visit Sita Amman Kovil Temple, the only Sita temple in the world.

Day 9: Tissamaharama & Yala National Park
After breakfast, check out of the hotel and your driver will take you to Tissamaharama, on the outskirts of Yala National Park. En route there you will visit the Udawalawe Elephant Transfer Home, which rehabilitates orphaned elephant calves and then returns them to the wild. Upon arrival in Tissamaharama you will check into your hotel then proceed on an afternoon jeep safari in Yala National Park. The park is home to a variety of wild animals, including elephants, leopards, and aquatic birds. The rest of the evening is at leisure.

Day 10: Tissamaharama & Yala National Park
Today you will have the morning in Yala National Park. You can then return to the hotel for some relaxation time or opt for an additional afternoon safari (for an additional charge).

Day 11: Galle 
Travel to Galle on the south coast and spend the afternoon exploring Galle Fort. The Galle Fort is a World Heritage Site and the largest remaining fortress in Asia built by European occupiers. When you enter the old city gates of this World Heritage Site you can’t help but notice the grand colonial houses, boutique shops, and of course the beautiful beaches on the edge of town.

Day 12: Galle
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel followed by a full day at leisure to spend as you wish. Perhaps visit the local shops to find some souvenirs to take home. Other prominent landmarks in Galle include the Natural Harbor, the National Maritime Museum, St. Mary’s Cathedral founded by Jesuit priests, and the Clock Tower.

Day 13: Fly back to the UK
In the morning you can enjoy a relaxed breakfast before your transfer to the airport for your flight home.
