In July 2016, four of our staff members, Faye Laukkanen, Bernadette Moffatt, Amy Hogan and Ellie Rees, completed the Sleep Walk in order to raise money for Rowcroft Hospice. This cause is dear to all our hearts as they provide comfort, support and specialist care to over 2,200 terminally ill patients and their loved ones across South Devon each year. We were amazed at the turn out and although hard work, it was worth it as the night raised a staggering £138,230!
We have also donated £250 to Ilsham C of E Academy, which went towards transportation for a school trip to see ‘Hetty Feather’. This was a lovely, educational trip and the children were buzzing with excitement on the day! Amy (our second year apprentice) took part in skydiving to raise money for a local charity called Dream-A-Way. We chose to support this cause as it helps people with disabilities and learning difficulties go on holidays and fun days out. The skydiving event raised over £200, which all went to this worthy charity.
We have pleasure in donating monies to provide a Polytunnel Greenhouse for the children of our local primary school. The greenhouse will allow the young children to grow and nurture plants, fruit and vegetables within a safe and dry environment. They will be attending local outdoor and charitable events providing their home grown produce for sale, were the monies will be re-invested in supplying more seeds to cultivate a variety of seasonal produce in the future. We hope that this will encourage Horticultural Learning into the school curriculum programme. Good luck to you all from all the girls in the Wellswood Store.
Finally, we have donated £100 to a wonderful young boy called Finley who, due to a rare condition, has trouble with mobility. As a result, he needs to raise money to purchase a special wheelchair to assist him with moving around. We met Finley in our branch and it was a pleasure to help such an inspiring and positive boy.
