Turkey's climate is characterised by extremes, with temperatures varying greatly from season to season across the country. The Mediterranean and Aegean coasts of Turkey enjoy very dry, hot summers, and mild, sometimes wet winters. Istanbul and Cappadocia can experience very cold winters, with light snow. High summer between July and September is the peak tourist season. The best time to visit Turkey is in spring or autumn - as the climate is still hot, but not unbearably so.
Things to see & do

There are a plenitude of things to do on Turkey holidays - from sightseeing, mud baths, paragliding, hiking and horse riding to parasailing, white water rafting, diving, and golf. If you're staying on the Bodrum coast, don't miss a trip to historical Ephesus. On the Turquoise Coast, sail down the Dalyan River and spot beautifully preserved tombs and endangered loggerhead turtles.

Nightlife in Turkey varies greatly, depending on where you choose to stay. Marmaris, Hisoronu, Bodrum and Gumbet are packed with late-night bars, clubs and discos perfect for party animals. Other resorts offer plenty of after-dark venues, but are on the quieter side. In many all-inclusive hotels, entertainment is in house and often includes Turkish nights with live music and belly dancing.

Food & drink

The restaurants and cafes in Turkey serve up a host of treats to tickle your taste buds. Tuck into delicious regional specialities such as kebabs, Turkish delight and baklava. In larger resorts, the restaurants embrace flavours from around the globe, alongside the odd fast food joint.
