Turkey's climate is characterised by extremes, with temperatures varying greatly from season to season in the country's different regions. The Mediterranean and Aegean coasts of Turkey have very dry, hot summers, and the mild, though wet, winters occur between October and April, when the coastal towns tend to more or less shut down. Istanbul and Cappadocia can experience very cold winters, with light snow. High summer, usually between July and September, is the peak tourist season. The best time to visit Turkey is usually between spring and autumn as the climate is still hot, but not unbearably so.
Things to see & do

Sightseeing, mud baths, parasailing, paragliding, water sports, white water rafting, diving, sailing, fishing, golf, hiking, horse riding, there are hundreds of things to do on holiday in Turkey. If you're staying on the Bodrum coast, don't miss a trip to historical Ephesus. In the Dalaman area (or Turquoise Coast), sail down the Dalyan River and spot beautifully preserved tombs and endangered loggerhead turtles.

Nightlife in Turkey varies greatly, depending on where you choose to stay. The livelier resorts of Marmaris, Hisoronu, Bodrum and Gumbet are packed with late night bars, clubs and discos. Other resorts offer plenty of after dark venues without being too lively. In many all inclusive hotels, entertainment is inhouse and often includes belly dancing shows and live music.

Food & drink

Youll be spoilt for choice when it comes to dining out in Turkey. Turkish specialities include kebabs, Turkish delight and baklava. In most larger resorts, you'll find a wide range of international restaurants, serving up food from Italy, China, India and beyond as well as the odd fast food joint.
